Content Post Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Right. Depending on his source, this could be a message from Vrabel's camp.

You guys have a much bigger mess than you think. If you want me to fix it, then we need a much bigger support staff.
I like that there seems to be a lot of smoke around Mayo’s situation.

Maybe we will be lucky and have seen the last of Mayo?

Also, wouldn’t Vrabel be one of the people most aware of the system that was in place and what might need to be done to fix it?

Which is why Breer could be sending these smoke signals. In theory anyway, right?

Definitely a lot of smoke. I think if they DID keep Mayo at this point despite all the noise and fan reaction, it would not go particularly well for them...

They are big on how they look. Last year they took a hit with many fans firing Bill. That's only gotten worse after their replacement turned out to be dog crap. If they replace him with Vrabel they will get a lot of instant good will - for some it will be because they love Vrabel; for others it will be because they hated Mayo; for many it will be both. I don't think there we be many (any?) fans upset that they fired Mayo.

I worry about WHO they'd bring in as well, Mayo/Cov etc...just don't seem to get it, AT ALL though.
Same stupid penalties from the same guys, same dumb excuses, same bus driving/walk backs, same lack of adjustments.

Just a really sucky situation, I don't know HOW there aren't some changes coming.
It occurred to me that Mayo/Wolf is RKK's version of MP/JG. In both cases senior leaders with long track records of success made unconventional, risky hiring decisions that blew up in their faces. RKK intervened and forced BOB on BB. Is he going to hold himself accountable to the same standards?

TBO, I actually feel a bit bad for Mayo, he's getting attacked from all sides, and while a lot of it DEFINITELY is his own doing, some of it wasn't.
Nobody wants to get smashed everyday.
He seems like a good guy.

IMO, He's just NOT cut out for this job, never was...he took the job of course (I don't know about backstabbing -just rumors), but he's not fkn ready... Saying stupid ****, throwing people under the bus - then trying to walk **** back...
Other than as a player, he's probably never had a job he actually deserved.
I wish him well.... But ELSEWHERE.

Probably NOT.

I’ll take a a quarter of what he got paid this season to be public enemy number 1.
I would at least tie the record, I would spend every waking moment on how to improve the patriots.
When the first thing he said he was going to do would celebrate have a drink I was a little concerned.

I do NOT feel sorry for Mayo.

He schmoozed himself into a position that he was not remotely qualified for and put his own desires ahead of the wellbeing of the Pats organization, Pats players, and Pats fans.

He is the perpetrator, not the victim.

He deserves a boot out the door and nothing more.

Elder abuse.

He definitely sucks, and needs to go.
I personally don't know anything thing that went on, nor does anyone else... except Krafty.
If he stabbed BB in the back, then he gets what he deserves.
I DO WANT HIM OUT.

They fired the GOAT HC one year and then fired his replacement after a single season with 1 (or possibly equal) less wins. This is especially concerning because of how untalented the team is anyways so this isn't a quick turn around.
I wouldn't rate this as high for the reason of a guaranteed contract first and foremost - all of the guys that are being touted are pretty much hot commodities that could bank the guaranteed pay and be back on a sideline in an OC role immediately (think McDaniels post-Broncs)

Second they are all likely Type As with high self-confidence that they can do better with both what's here and the flexibility the draft and cap space gives them to make some significant change. I would posit it's tough to be even a coordinator without that trait.

Just imagine the feelings of the fans and players in these two scenarios;

1) The Pats keep Mayo

2) The Pats fire Mayo and hire Vrabel.

One decision demoralizes the fan base and they start leaving or finding other interests,

The other decision invigorates the fans and players.

I would be in favor of just firing Mayo now and using AVP as interim coach for the last game.

There is nothing Mayo can do in the final game to make things better.

I’m option 3 fire Mayo and hire a new head of football operations.
Eric Decosta, Ray Agnew, Scott Pioli

It's the same feeling I had about Rod Rust and Pete Carroll.

Both coaches were not set up for success but certainly didn't make things better.

That's Mayo.

Problem is hiring a new GM or football czar Mayo will be the first one out.
