As far as the #4 pick... whether there is a left tackle worth the fourth pick overall, to me, is irrelevant. Is there a guy with at least a first round grade on him that can play left tackle? Or even right at this point? You get that guy with the fourth pick. Don't gamble that dude will be available later.

DK Metcalf has essentially put up Jakobi Meyers numbers for the past three years with a much worse catch %.



Does that excite anybody? Do you want to trade draft picks for it?


Meyers. 2600 yards 18 TD 215 receptions

Metcalf 3100. Yards 19 TD 222 receptions

I wouldn’t mind having Metcalf on this team at all, but giving up draft capital for a guy who won’t be here when you’re hopefully good seems like a waste

I know I sound like a broken record, but Metcalf and Meyers play different positions. Metcalf is an X and Jacoby is more of a Z or slot. Meyers style of play can adapt to any QB. He is just a smooth workhorse who should be a Patriot. DK is an outside burner who wins physical battles. He thrives with a QB who has a cannon of an arm. That is not Geno Smith. Drake has shown the ability and courage to throw deep to Boutte, and that would be radically different with a guy like Metcalf. Its not a waste to give Drake a like Metcalf. It will help him develop much more quickly. Its not about being good now. Its about growing Drake.

I still say for a rebuilding team you make more headway with guys like Godwin or Kupp. With their age and injuries it’s not really sexy but it’s a great way to help your QB development while hopefully showing the ability to actually draft some WR talent

I believe that’ll be the deciding factor, will NE be able to convince him to sign an extension somewhere he doesn’t want to live. I don’t think trade compensation or the contract will be the biggest hurdles, convincing DK to play here will be.

After seeing how things have transpired here the last few years I'd be willing to bet that players don't see NE as a great destination right now. I don't. Maybe Vrabel can help their image though.
