Did I miss something? Why was Eric Rowe subbing for Loyan Ryan?

is that what you see? looks more like OPI to me

It is good to duck when posts like those come at you. That way they go right over you instead of hitting square on.

Or this:

Not as bad a call as the second one, but still very ticky-tacky. Getting his head turned around wasn't the problem with Rowe yesterday.

I think neither one should have been called on Rowe.

I agree. If this happened on the other side I wouldn't have demanded DPI for that one. There isn't a lot of contact and Rowe has his head turned around.

Reminds me of the play a few years ago when McCourty got flagged as the receiver had him by the facemask, dragging him into the endzone.

I remember that. I really dont know WTF these secondary/sideline judges are watching.

Maybe they were distracted by flying sex toys. Who knows..

I remember a good amount of contact in the first one before the over the shoulder glance. The second one was clear OPI. The first wasn't really that bad of a call. I remember watching the replay and giving it a reluctant "okay, I guess... *grumble*".

Clearly I sound homerish here but can someone explain to me why that was PI?

Right arm restricting the movement of Hunters left arm?

He holds his left arm down so he can't make the catch. Technically a penalty. Yes, far worse contact often goes uncalled. The lesson: PI should not be a spot foul because no human can decipher these gradations of contact in real time.

You guys watching that second one and not seeing Rowe interfering with the receiver's left arm are the homerest of the homers.

Yea thats my interpretation. I understand the call but I still think its ticky-tack.

Yes, the ref judged Rowe's right arm to have prevented the receiver's left arm from going up. It was more incidental contact than blatent intention by Rowe. It's a call you can make but I wouldn't say it's a call you have to make 100% of the time.

Hunter reaching back to push off on his shoulder initiated all said contact. Have yet to see anyone mention this about what was the more understandable call of the 2.

I mentioned it in other threads yesterday that Rowe was turned looking for the ball when Hunter jumped up and turned and his momentum brought him into Rowe.

Not saying that it is an egregious call like the one at the end when Woods was the one that committed PI and it got called on Rowe. But it's one that could go either way. Saw a handful of plays like it yesterday that weren't called. It's gotta be one or the other. Can't be calling it in one game and not in another. But that's how it is in this league, ref inconsistency.

Rowe had, how many, 3 penalties? It was a tough day for a guy who was just promoted to the #2 CB position

2.. The third one was absolutely bogus and shouldn't be counted against him and the illegal contact was as ticky tack as it gets, put his hands on a guy for about a second. Funny that the refs caught the one but didn't see Collins get grabbed by the facemask on Taylor's TD run.
