Honestly wouldn't surprise me if the Patriots find a gem wide receiver in the 6th round and never find one in the first top 3...
Agreed he's appearing as just that as well. I watched his interview.. the kid has some personality with him and a great understanding of the game and culture in NE. I'm really looking forward to him being with the 1st team offense.

DD has also impressed teammates with his toughness and physicality.
Kinda sounds like the offensive version of Jon Jones. Damn, Pats would be hitting another home run if that turns out to be true

All I needed to hear was he can easily get separation. Considering he’s on a time with WRs that cannot get any separation…

Really looking forward to see how he does when the pads come on, because I think Douglas' skillset is precisely what this offense needs: a guy with short area quickness that can get open early in the down. No one else fits that mold, and that's the guy who has feasted in this offense for 20 years (Troy Brown, Edelman, Welker, Amendola).
That video really showcases his ability to make the first guy miss - much like Jules could. Much too early, but if he's at 40% of Jules at this stage, we got a steal in the 6th.

Its that move at 1:58 and again at 2:40 that gives me Edelman/Welker vibes...

I have zero perspective other than watching a three minute youtube video, but sounds like he may be a good find. Not sure how him and JuJu would line up in tandem as they both seem like "slot" guys. Seems like a good option for underneath routes/screens/gadget plays etc for year 1?

considering none of our other guys can get open against man coverage. it would be a win if he could.

also would be nice if he pans out. because supposedly Thornton is on a milk box this training camp..

He has a similar game as Zay Flowers. I think back to Jakobi's first training camp and how he hit the ground running on day 1 and was making catches. If Douglas continues to have a good week, he's gonna make it. Then who else do we keep:
- Thornton's untouchable
- JuJu's untouchable
- Parker is probably untouchable, unless the new guy Hurd pushes him out (unlikely)
- Bourne is not untouchable but a fairly safe bet to make the team
- Douglas would be our 5th if we can afford 5. Nixon, Boutte, Webb, Lee, & Hurd would all be cut or PS.
To "make it" as a lower drafted/signed rookie in the Pats' offence historically still means a couple years on the bench no matter how good you look early.

What makes you say Thornton is untouchable? And that Bourne is not?

I know a lot of posters here don’t like Bourne and love Thornton, but one of them has delivered good performance at the NFL level and the other is still really just a promising prospect.

The latter won't be promising if he craps the bed in year two see Bethel Johnson below.

Who does not like Bourne and loves Thornton? Lots of posters?

I’d have to look back to see who posted what and frankly I’m not motivated enough to do that. I’ve seen what seems to me to be many posts ready to dump Bourne, or suggesting he’s on the bubble despite his past performance as an NFL WR. Feels like at least half, maybe more, of the posts about him are in that category. Likewise it seems to me that there have been more posts touting Thornton than there are acknowledging his limited body of work.

The post to which I was replying is an example of both of those observations for one example answering your first question. I mean, Thornton is untouchable when he has done very little, yet Bourne isn‘t untouchable even though he’s produced well? Bourne, along with Juju and Parker, has produced as an NFL WR. None of the other WRs have.

Bourne has produced all the time he's been here. However, something happened last year, and he has been in the doghouse. When we were going to add a top WR, it was immediately forecast that Bourne would be gone.

All that being said, I don't see Belichick giving up on Thornton. He gave Harry 4 seasons. Certainly, he will give Thornton two seasons.

My hope is that we keep 5 WR's. I'm fine if Thornton and Douglas don't get a lot of reps, as they develop.

We have a lot of targets in Parker, Shuster, Bourne, Gesecki, Henry, Montgomery, and at least one other RB.

Most posters are pissed that Fat Matt didn't use Bourne more.

With the ball in his hands, he reminds me more of Dion Lewis.

**** Tyreek Hill. But I'll take that comparison too, minus the abusing children and pregnant women.
fixed that for ya

Jalen Hurd is out/retired... and we cut Ed Lee today

I have definitely ooh'd and ahhh'd over his 40 time, and I think of Bourne as being in Meyer's league. A dependable guy. I know a lot here think KB is going to have a 100 catch, 15 TD, 1200 yard season any minute now. I see him as productive but not Mr. homerun ball.

And to be clear, Thornton, right now, remains a huge "potential" threat. He's really shown nothing to date other than a 40 time.
