Dean Pees on Ellis Hobbs

lol. Gotta admit, rose colored glasses make everything beautiful. But it's hard to throw mud on a team that's 16-0 and have it stick.

There are 64 starting CBs in the NFL. Average puts him in the 30s, if you were going to rank them in order.

So, Real World, if you're up for it, I challenge you to give me a list of a dozen CBs that you would trade for Hobbs straight up, to improve our secondary. Then the rest of us Hobbs-lovers can rip your list to shreds.

I can only think of a few CBs that I really admire: Deangelo Hall, Champ Bailey, Ty Law. Trufant? And only a few kids that I'd consider on par with Hobbs: the Ross kid with the Giants, and Marlin Jackson... and they were both first rounders.

So I list 12 corners better than Hobbs, and you rip them. Yeah, that sounds like something I'd want to do. If I say Leigh Bodden, you say he sucks. Now that solves alot. I'm a sucker though, so here goes.

Sheppard, Harris, Lucas, Barber, Surtain, Winfield, Bly, Clement, Springs, McAlister, Taylor, Cromartie, Mathis, Robinson, Asomugha, McKenzie, Woodson...need more?

Again, I'm not saying Hobbs is sorry, I'm just saying he mediocre, or average.

LOL! Cuz the Patriots don't rotate their corners to the opposite side of the field, to cover specific recievers. Hobbs always plays the right, and Asante always plays the left.

You're making my point. If Hobbs was as mediocre as you claim, and Asante the franchise talent he's often credited to be, why the hell would New England not make sure that Hobbs wasn't on the opposition's #1 player? After all, you're talking about a guy who's got a gameplan in the Hall of Fame....

Since he's a fullback, I imagine it was a linebacker.

Maybe a safety that deep. I don't think I've ever seen a CB assigned to a fullback.

actually, he is a big runningback... but, when Parker was still playing, he might have played fullback then.

And for Hobbs not hitting hard... this is absurd. For a cornerback, he is very strong imo...

Please do not lie. Go re-watch the Bengals game and then re-word your "never" comment. Oh and BTW, when they switched sides, it was to keep Hobbs on Chad Johnson... ya know the Bengals BEST receiver.

What I would like to know is what you base "average" off of. Do you have statistics to prove Hobbs is average? Do you watch coach film of every team, every game and judge each corner? Explain how you can convincingly come to the conclusion that Hobbs is simply average or below average.

You're saying that because that's what the announcers claimed during the Giants game.

It's untrue. I have seen the Patriots flip Corners many times to get a better matchup.

I'm making your point? Deus, this isn't complicated. Hobbs ALWAYS plays the right side, and Asante the left. The Pats don't switch their sides no matter what. so when Pitt comes in, they put Burress on Hobbs' side because they know the Pats aren't going to move Asante over. Hello?

99.99% of the time. That better?

My bad fellas, Hobbs is in the Top 12 in the league. You all convicned me.

Utterly false. Teams rarely play "right and left", it's usually a mix of Strong/Weak, Field/Boundary or by matchup. When it's Cover 2, it's really irrelevant.

Why is Pees lying like this? It obviously isn't true. I heard Felger say several times that Hobbs was beat on those plays. :bricks:

I can't imagine any reason why Pees would have any interest in giving out misinformation.

Apparently during the playoffs coaches routinely use the media to help opposing teams analyze their defense.

They are truthful and honest at all times.

Such a list might also include Lito Sheppard, Brian Williams, Rashean Mathis, Dre Bly, Deltha O'Neal, Ken Lucas, Ike Taylor, Dunta Robinson, Chris McAlister, Nate Clements. And the Jets rookie, and Antonio Cromartie. Does Devin Hester count?

Yeah, i know he's a 250 lb. running back and i'm sure he played some fullback with Parker. It was shorthand.

He's not a player a CB would be assigned to, that's my only point.

I think Hobbs hits well for someone his size.

His size is small, however.

Can I Try and make this list of starting corners I would trade for Hobbs? In no specific order

Darrelle Revis, Champ Bailey, Dre Bly, DeAngelo Hall, Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard, Rasean Mathis, Al Harris, Charles Woodson, Nate Clements, Chris McAlister, Dunta Robinson, Ronde Barber, Antonio Cromartie, Terrence Newman, Sam Madison, Shawn Springs, Charles Tillman, Nathan Vasher, Antoine Winfield, Ken Lucas, Chris Gamble, Marcus Trufant, Nnmadi Asmougha, Fabian Washington(this kid is so raw and so good at his age that his upside is great), Patrick Surtain, Samari Rolle, Ike Taylor. I think thats a fair list. I counted 30 corners I rate ahead of him

So that play wasn't his fault. Does that explain all the constant plays receivers are making around him? every time I see the guy he's just not where he needs to be. I'm not down on Hobbs either. I just think he's an inconsistent player.

What are you talking about with this "constant plays" nonsense?

It's so funny to see homers get all defensive for calling Ellis Hobbs a mediocre corner. My bad, Hobbs is the next Neon Sanders, only without the lights. Hobbs is an average corner fellas.

If you only watch games on TV you really have no idea whether Hobbs is good or not. And no one really but the team knows who had what responsiblities on a play.

The Hobbs comment was directed to someone else who thought he was soft. I should have been more succinct.

Hobbs is a shorty though...
