RETURNER
It's seems clear that Jones is incapable of being a returner. It's Belichick that he's continuing in that position, after looking terrible all year. We all thought that we'd picked up a returner this last week. If we didn't, we need to do so. If not, Edelman will be our punt returner, not a good idea, after losing Amendola when he was put in as returner.
DEFENSIVE BACK
Cyrus Jones is a rookie who hasn't played very well. That is NOT unusual with patriot rookie defensive corners. He was needed in this game as the 6th DB. Rowe is out injured, and I guess that either Coleman is injured or Jones is ahead of him. The other Jones was also out there. Chris Long was in coverage for most of the game! This was a very special situation. BALT throws the ball more than anyone but Cleveland. Until BALT showed that they could run, the patriots put 7 or 8 players in coverage on every down.
So, until Rowe is healthy, we need to choose among Jones, Jones and Coleman as the 6th defensive back. Harmon is the #5.
BOTTOM LINE
Cyrus Jones is a rookie who is really not good enough yet to be a regular contributor. He has been called into action because of the injury to Rowe. With a healthy Rowe, we have six solid defensive backs: McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Butler, Ryan and Rowe. The combination of these players provides lots of options for the defensive coaches.
So, I have no complaints with regard to Cyrus Jones as a corner, although I hoped for faster development.
What is clear is that he shouldn't be on the field on special teams.
