eople who have spent the past 20 years wondering where Bill Belichick’s heart is should be led directly to how he’s operated this week.

Even while being his usual evasive self, the words he’s chosen to say tell you all you need to know.

“What’s best for our football team is the health and safety of our team,” Belichick said on Saturday. “That’s our No. 1 priority. So, without that, we don’t have a team. We have to maintain the integrity of not only our football team, but also the extended team – our families and the loved ones for every member of our team. That’s got to come first. …

"We can’t compromise the health, safety and well-being of our football team, including our staff,” he continued. “I don’t think that’s the answer, I don’t think that’s the way to go in the long term, and I think that’s going to be much more detrimental than a short-term adjustment that we have to make in order to maximize everyone’s health and safety. That’s our approach, that’s the way I look at it, and I know that’s the way Mr. [Robert] Kraft looks at it, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do. We’ll put the team first and that’s our philosophy."

The powers that be – the NFL and NFLPA – put themselves in this position.

On Wednesday, team sources indicated to me waning trust in the league after the Patriots flew to Kansas City then had a request for more space in the Chiefs locker room rebuffed.

The Patriots – not the NFL – were the ones who decided to keep their facility closed on Friday. The Patriots were the ones who took two planes to Kansas City. The Patriots were the ones who had coaches and players voluntarily staying in hotels this week to sequester themselves away from their families.

“I don’t want to sound like we’re victims or anything, but we’re going through the same exact thing that you guys are going through and everybody in our nation right now,” said McCourty. “The coronavirus has stopped us all and we all have had to figure it out. That is what we’re doing here. No different than my kids figuring out how they are going to go to school this year or anybody else throughout our country.

“I think (Belichick) felt like just through different doctors and medical experts who have been studying and getting to know this virus that it was in our best interest not be around each other because it was just a lot of uncertainty and a lot of unknown,” he continued.

“As a captain, as a player on this team, you appreciate that you are not put in a bind and you don’t have to choose between am I putting myself in danger or whatever the case my be. It makes you proud that we have done everything we possibly can as we have reentered the building and we reenter whatever you call our norm for this year.

If the season continues, we win the superbowl. This is the secret to forming a team. BB is his dad. His dad also led through a difficult situation during WWII. My support for BB is actually from the love I have developed for his dad through books like the "Golden Thirteen"and Ian O'connor's " Belichick" among the others I have read

As I suspected- Pats weren’t playing this game no matter what the league wanted and I suspect the Broncos weren’t either.

Telling the clowns that run the league to F off seems to work. Good to know.

Proud of our team frankly. if they had enough time last week they wouldve likely told nfl they arent playing in KC either. That was a huge medical risk they took and its costing them their health and anxiety of their families health.

Pretty sure Bill’s gonna run the team the way he see’s fit the rest of the season. Even if it means missing more games along the way. No game is worth even one player or families health. If it gets any worse I wouldn’t be surprised to see a vote from a team to forfeit the rest of the season.

Very strange and difficult times we live in because of this virus. Almost unprecedented since the spanish influenza.

Do you live in Australia where it is Monday Oct.12?

I think Curran takes it a step too far. He makes it sound like a full on insurrection went down. Instead a few opinions were voiced. We still don't know the reason the game was moved from MNF to next weekend. It's just as likely it was a simple reconsideration of the situation. But hey, it gets clicks to make it sound like we 'call our own shots' so let's run with that.

I strongly doubt NJFL would cede the ability for us to 'call our own shots', and Curran really doesn't have the evidence of such. He's just stitching together James White's tweet with some other things and running with it.

Ummmmm.....
With todays covid positive result, a one day testing/clearance timetable was a non-starter, especially after the blowback by Pats players on the record and off

I think you might be underestimating what else Curran most certainly has heard off the record. I see it the other way around and truly believe that they would have forfeited the game if the League decided to put them into a position they wouldn't feel comfortable with.

I bet the Broncos had the same sentiment and that forced the league’s hand. If both teams want to forfeit then what would the league do.

Cheers to Belichick. Protecting the team and families is the right thing to do.

This season is pure chaos. While a Super Bowl run would be nice, keeping everyone safe and feeling valued as people can only be good long-term.

Let's sign Newton to a long-term deal once the dust settles and we've got a team that can make noise when the world gets back to some sort of normal.

Could both teams agree to count it as a 0-0 TIE?

Curran is quite overrated and I’m not sure why he’s highly regarded. I’d honestly rather hear anyone else like Schefter with lots of sources.

We have to be proud of our team overall and BB looks as always the good leader

Bravo Bill

In this case no victory on the field but on real life

Real life victories are the best. I've had two very big ones in the last few years.

That's a great nickname for Belichick... Bravo Bill.

If I'm an NYFL player Bravo Bill is the first guy I'd want as my HC.

Only under goddell’s leadership could chasing the dollars trump player safety!
Not to **** on your post, but when has it not been about business in our country? That is how we are built. The stores must be opened, the show must go on. We can't stop like some of these countries. I don't think Goddell is doing anything that is not quintessentially American.
