Yep, that's bad news. You can't have a situation where a team plans to cut a vet and gets to hand-pick other teams to negotiate with him pre-release to keep his knowledge of the playbook out of their division. That's trampling over the player's rights to test his market and get the best opportunity he can.

Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way but, can't Sanchize still say no to Dallas and test the market first? I don't see how he isn't being allowed to do what he wants.

Maybe, but these situations are typically highly time-sensitive, and Denver shouldn't have any say in former player's contract elsewhere . Picture it like this: "We'll release you early if you agree to our list of potential destinations...or we'll wait until the 11th hour when the obvious teams already filled their vacancies. It's up to you."
