My sincerest prayers for Tavai and his family during this brutally difficult time…..I can’t even imagine the pain they are going through…God bless them

That story really hits me hard. Maybe because my oldest is at the same stage of pregnancy with my first grandchild. Peace on all souls.

Mr Peabody's Wayback Machine: 2004 I got surprise nuked as head of product development at my own startup! WTF?
Started looking for jobs, but fortunately decided instead to use my Babson MBA and do my own financial advisor thing and spend 2 days a week helping raise grandchild. Big help to 2 working parents. That and volunteering as a math/science teachers' helper at local middle schools worked out great. Big transition from long hours, high stress career which strangely I'd loved.

Flash fwd to 2025/6 and 1st granddaughter getting masters* in Bioinformatics and listed as co-author in published papers. 2nd one is at Tufts EE like both grandfathers and MIT EE Dad. Off to 6 months at Oxford junior year next month. You can have a major opportunity to help guide the lives of kids as a grandparent. If I had grandsons I'd encourage them to consider the trades vs college.

* As a freshman in college, she's playing beach football. Guys ask, "Where'd you learn to throw a tight spiral like that?"
She replied, "My grandfather." My proudest educational moment.

No Schillings around to be media blabber, thankfully.. I didn't hear anyone saying crap about him being away, just it was personal matter and the team supported him. Reading between those lines, you usually know it is either spouse or child, unfortunately in this case both. Thoughts and prayers.

Exactly. If the team is tight lipped about a personal matter, you know it's something pretty devastating. Same thing happened to the Dodgers reliever who missed the World Series. RIP to Baby Ka ua and prayers to the Tavai family.

We love our own rotten ungrateful kids* but it's your delightful grandkids that love you back, shoulda had them first.
