College Football Star Michael Sam Says He Is Gay; May Become First Publicly G...

Why do we care?

According to several reports, his teammates and many agents knew he was gay well before this. He's making an excellent move to get out in front of it now before the Combine begins and the questions start flying at him from teams interested in drafting him, and before it becomes some reporter's big breaking news.

This guy is a fascinating draft prospect - 6-2, 255 lbs and lightning fast. How big is Brandon Spikes? You guessed it, 6-2, 255!

You don't get picked as SEC defensive player of the year if you can't fly to the ball. If he's got cover skills, he'd be a great pick-up for the 3-4 to replace Spikes on passing downs, especially if he falls to the 5th or 6th round where the value will be excellent. He's got down lineman skills to shift up to the line at DE on obvious passing downs.

The Patriots is one of those teams where the coach won't care what you are if you can get the job done, and where the coach is not on the hot seat. I can hear Belichick now when the media pesters him if Michael Sam being gay is a distraction:

"Sam is a rookie and has a lot to learn to help us out on defense and special teams."

"We already covered that."

"We already covered that."

"We already covered that."

"We already covered that."

Good point. Even Whitey Bulger made fiends when he bought things for people if you want to look at it sarcastically. People look the other way and I hope he does share with his loved ones.

Yeah, excellent job comparing Michael Sam, a fine young football player and upstanding citizen, to Whitey Bulger, a murdering psychopath. You should probably get out of this thread, cousin, it isn't looking good on ya.

Har har! I'm speaking from having life experience and knowing women in general. I've never met any who'd think it'd be "no big deal" to get naked in a co-ed locker room. You must have no experience with women at all. Loser.

That's not what you said. This is what you said:

women especially don't like to be unclothed in front of the opposite sex

Now if you had said "don't like to be unclothed in a co-ed locker room" or "in front of other women" (assuming you even know anything about that), that would have been something else, but you didn't.

Nice Freudian slip.

It sure beats the way Manti Te'o publicly announced his straightness by giving interview after interview talking about his fake girlfriend, huh? Or how about Gronk posing shirtless with porn stars?

We straight people make big public statements about our sexual orientation ALL THE TIME, in good ways and bad. (Heck, I even married a man!)

Another bubble burst. :cry2: I always assumed your kids were the result of immaculate conception.

No in fact Andy. Never said that nor was it ever intended to be that way. I am a sinner. I am sure much worse than you. There was only one perfect person. I say live and let live but don't pound your chest to gain attention to yourself if it is not necessary.

Andy, Did you need to know Sam was gay?

Did I? Nope

DW Toys (a huge sinner and least of all perfect)

You are asking people to hide who they are because they are not like you. That is the height of arrogance.
Of course you are a sinner, judging people is a huge sin.

It isn't about what I want, it is about Sams right to live his life how he chooses.
You just can't see that you feeling you have the right to instruct him to be embarrassed and ashamed of who he is really is the shameful thing.

In my humble opinion, I prefer that not any children are exposed to this. This is an adult issue. Children are the future fans of the NFL. They watch football now as youngsters. They look up to young athletes. There is absolutely no reason they even need to know about this stuff now. He is throwing it out for them to see and hear and they will not understand. Don't want this preached in schools for my kids or family, politics or in the work place. Live your life. Leave other people alone about your "coming out" stuff*. Tell your dog or your best friend.

Regardless of how his family portrays this, you have to feel sorry for them. This is a family tragedy. We all know someone either family or friends that this has happened to and no one is happy regardless of the impression of how proud they all are.
How the **** is it a tragedy?

*For all of you who are Christian as I, the ACLU and our wonderful Government has claimed it illegal to pray or have Christmas songs that might trend Christian beliefs in said schools or public places because it offends people of other ways of life. So they ban those things. Yet they force feed our children in grade school and the public the life style of those of gay and lesbian gender situations that might offend some of us in many religions and ways of life. But yet that is perfectly fine. If we told those of the Muslim religion they have to listen to the teachings of Judeo Christian ways of life and the GL mantra of "just deal with it" would be the battle cry there, then there would be more law suits than Government lies.....Just saying

If this kid can play ball...great. I don't need to know if he has three testicles or making love to other men.

DW Toys

Just like you don't need to know about his lifestyle, I don't need to know or see the players after games or TD thanking God. I don't need to hear about their kids or see how many Kids these players have with how many different women?

What is sad in the locker Cromartie would be looked apon being A Man. (12 kids, 8 women). While Sam would be the "non-manly" one.

There was only one perfect person. I say live and let live but don't pound your chest to gain attention to yourself if it is not necessary.

Ahem.

By your standard Jesus was not perfect. In fact I tried to give him your advice at the time, I said jesus you don't need no stinkin red badge of courage so just stay quiet and don't go pissing those Romans off any more than they already are. No need to draw unwanted attention to yourself so just keep quiet about your beliefs.

But did he listen to me? Noooooooooooo, Just had to go for the limelight, and look what that got him? A great view of the city and eternal adoration.

Fact Cousin. Yep I have family members although some not blood. It is no ask no tell here and we love those people to death, but we prefer that it is not in our family discussions at the diner table. If you don't have "family" of that persuasion, and you think I am unhinged (well possibly) you don't know how it is, but we never even want to bring it up, probe or question.

To say we do not have moral concerns would be a lie. Would it hurt us if they used gayness as a forum for self acclaim?....Yes.

DW Toys

What are you afraid you will catch Gay if talked about the dinner table?

I have family member who is gay and the day she came out was a day of relief and joy for my family. I have known since I was 15 that my Aunt was gay. I was the only family member who knew. She is 3 years older than me. I was so happy for her when she could finally live her life in the way she should when she came out 21 years ago. She got married last year at a wonderful ceremony. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of my family was there and loved it!

I don't even care to get into the rest of the ignorant nonsense that you posted, but the bolded portion is just objectively wrong. Lots of us have openly gay members of our families, and I can assure you that we feel no shame or 'tragedy' about it. Maybe you can't fathom being proud of someone for being secure in who they are despite being constantly told that they shouldn't be, but your views don't reflect on the rest of us who are actually living in the 21st century.

And please, for once, stop trying to excuse your bigotry as sincere religious belief. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin in exactly the same way that cutting your facial hair and wearing clothes of multiple fabrics are. Your incredibly selective memory re: the Old Testament betrays your homophobia. You're a bigot, plain and simple.

If you say so. You win. I have family members. I can say what our feeling is. I never used the word shame. If you ask me if I would prefer they were straight, then I am guilty as charged. You can lie to me and tell me you never wished that yours were straight.

I am a huge sinner so I do not try to judge any person, but I will be disappointed if a person tells me how I must interpret Bible readings, I must accept the way you interpret what Christianity states it's feeling is about Homosexuality and the views I must accept in the 21st century or else? You can pick and choose your Bible interpretations. That is up to you. Who is the bigot sir? The definition of Bigot is thus;

"a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc"

This is getting way out of hand. My point was he did not need to let...o.k. just say me then, know he was a gay player. He can come into my house and break bread with me. I am not going to debate his persuasion, that's all. You can lie and say his family does not wish he was straight. That is fine too.

I am not going to get caught up in some liberal deal here. You are entitled to your opinion. Some may not have family members. If you choose to chastise me because I wish they were straight....so be it. I love them anyway. I am sure they are happy the way they are.

Peace to you and yours Brady.

Conditional love is not real love.

Cousin please go formulate some really stupid, asinine trade where the Pats give up a 7th, three pairs of socks and two copies of your "interpretation" of words in print in exchange for two All-Pros on rookie contracts THAT COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN! Somehow those posts are far more informative and productive.

You are absolutely judging him for his actions.

If you choose to chastise me because I wish they were straight....so be it. I love them anyway.
But I guess it is not unconditional love. If it was unconditional love you would say you love them without the I wish you were straight.

hahaha shut this thread down, it's over

True that.
Thus the word sarcastically was applied to that statement.

It was also said he should help his loved ones. But that was omitted in your retort.

Oh Well.

You are right. I am talking about a very liberal topic in this state. What was I thinking?

I say I am Christian and admitted a sinner, but say the Christians are slammed for Christmas etc. and I am a bigot.

Next thing ya know I will get a phone call from Lizzy Warren. HA!

Good one. Get me out of this Liberal mess...

You have all taught me a valuable lesson. You win.

edit: Nah I won't bother with this because it will push this thread down a hole it doesn't need to go

Finally a player who may be a BIGGER media circus than Tebow!

Funny that you should bring the bible and it's interpretation into this. I suggest you read this book:

Misquoting Jesus

We all know the lesson of "broken telephone" or "pass the message" where you whisper a statement to one person and it gets passed down the line and the last person to get it, very rarely gets the correct message.

When you consider that for 1,500 years the bible was orally transmitted and copied by hand, you should hopefully realize the inherent danger of taking the bible too literally.

After all, you wouldn't want to cut your hand or foot off if either causes you to stumble, or pluck your eye out for that matter (Mark 9:42-47).
