Clayborn indeed: visiting tonight!

he got 6 sacks in one game when the cowboys were without tyron smith.....don't let the numbers fool you, he's not all that

I'd rather go with Pernell Mcphee since he doesn't affect comp picks

Thanks to Johnson Bademosi, neither will a Clayborn signing. We have five desertions for comp picks - you can only get 4.

And for those saying "vet minimum"' or 3-4 million/year, what do you expect Trey Flowers to get after his rookie deal? Clayborn's numbers look pretty similar.

Please compare Clayborn's injury history with that of Flowers. Clayborn is a member of one of Belichick's target groups: top players who are coming back from major injury. They re often willing to sign show-me 1 or 2 year contracts, with the idea of getting paid when they leave.

Of course, fans complain in any case. We complain when such a risky signing doesn't work out. And, if they work out, we complain that the team won't re-sign them at top market rates. The reality is that this type of player at low cost is part of Belichick's strategy of building a team.

The Eagles were missing their freaking starting QB and LT due to injuries so playing the “if they were heathy” game is dumb.
It appears to me that you were one of the poor souls that underestimated the quality of Nick Foles play. The point I’m trying to make, is that those players that would’ve made the defense better, are all coming back. Unless you assumed the following:

Hightower-No impact in pass rush, no impact on pass Defense. No impact on communication.
McClellin-Would have not been better than Roberts out there.
Rivers-Wouldn’t have progressed and provided any help as the season wore on.
Valentine-Wouldn’t have contributed to the rush D.
J. Jones-His injury in the playoffs had no bearing on the quality of pass d.

ALL of those guys......coming back. If the team seems them as being worth it, they will be here. The defense you saw get torched in the Super Bowl, will not be the Defense you see in wk 1, and that’s even after not adding anyone. The additional point I was trying to make is that scraping from the bottom of the barrel doesn’t always equal **** play. Sure seemed to work out for Dion and Malcolm. Both of those guys weren’t **** before they joined this team. No one was clamoring for their services. In comparison, Richards was a 2nd rd pick and didn’t work out.

Don't disagree...but "vet minimum" or 3/year is absurd.

Flowers is probably gone soon - he's going to get a huge contract. If you can get someone to match his production for, say, 7m, I think you grab it.

$7M AAV can be consistent with a $3M 2018 cap hit.

3 years
bonus $6M
2018 $1M
2019 $6M
2010 $8M

Now THIS is a guy I would LOVE the Pats to sign even though we are fairly stacked at CB right now. I had hoped the Pats would make a big run at him when he came back from Canada, but he was a Louisiana kid and going to the Saints was a no-brainer. Injuries other than the neck injury that caused him to go to Canada have derailed his progress, but he had a rare combination of size, quickness, and speed that shouldn't be ignored.

As far as Claybourn is concerned, I'm in the middle on him. He's not a difference maker as a rusher, but he is a solid player. At the right price, whatever that is, I'd be happy to add him. If he wants more than what BB values him at, then I'm cool with him going elsewhere.

Hopefully no info about his visit so far means he left NE without a contract.
