Key, yes, circus not so much. But I'll say his entire 2018 salary was worth not punting here at the 25. Go to the 1:25 spot.

This is so much fun to watch. 12 minutes of Chiefs pain.

I understand your belief that we won't get much more. However, I have a bit different perspective.

I think that Dorsett is the clear #3 (chosen over Hogan), although it is indeed possible that someone could beat him out.

I have Ellington/Harris competing for the #4 WR spot perhaps with a rookie. For me, Gordon is the mythical #5 WR, if we even have one.

    WR #1 - Edelman
    WR #2 - ???
    WR #3 - Dorsett
    WR #4 - Ellington/Harris/rookie/fa/trade
    WR #5 - Gordon/rookie/fa or no one

Until BB is willing to open his wallet a little wider, I'm afraid he will have
to settle for injury prone players on minimum, one year contracts. He needs
the force to be with him in this month's draft.

I may have written my post poorly, because I think you misunderstood it. It wouldn't surprise me to see the team go out and get a legit WR1/WR2, and it won't surprise me to see the team double dipping at WR with its first few picks. But the reason for that would be, as much as any perceived need at WR, the talent desert that is the current TE group.

The Patriots play offense from the inside out, unlike most teams. But, to have the best success in such a scheme, you need big guys who can take more of the pounding (TEs) (thus Graham/Watson and Gronk/Hernandez (high talent steal at the round taken) being taken the way they were). In the absence of such players, devoting capital to getting better WRs becomes more of a possibility, IMO.

As for the WR3, I'm pretty sure that I've been this board's biggest supporter of Dorsett, so I'm not trying to downplay him, and I agree with the idea of the Patriots having clearly chosen him over Hogan for this season. I'm just not going to slot him into that WR3 slot until he wins it outright, since he didn't have the job last year.

WRs at the top were overpaid this year, and BB seems to have misjudged their market by more than $1m per year, which probably cost him each of the 2 'slot' WRs he wanted (dangerously assuming that reports were accurate). So BB will look at what's out there now, and at what gets cut loose (via trade or straight cut) post-draft. He may even pull the trigger on a trade involving draft capital.

However it comes about, I doubt that the team is done bringing in veteran WRs. And I think bringing DT in for a look was more than just the usual due diligence.

Interesting 16 page CH thread at Panthers message board. Most welcome his big game experience and lower price tag which allows them to cut the more expensive Torey Smith. It also allows a nice comparison of a well run Pats forum vs one that has at least 4 pages of insults among posters.

Are we talking about the same play? The video you linked has the overtime catch he made a first down on. I'm talking the one in regulation where he went horizontal and snared it with one hand.

I stand corrected. The regulation catch, I did forget about. I am surprised they did not take that away.

Whenever I see clips like this, the Edelman catch against Atlanta (or am forced to see the helmet catch) it just reminds me how much of this game really is luck and the ball bouncing your way.

    Insane.

I think it’s the opposite. He isn’t athletic at all, at least from the standpoint of an NFL receiver. He and Brady work well together when he’s like the 3rd or 4th option and can get him open by misdirection and teams focusing on better players. Hogan is a good route runner and reliable, and he’s especially bettern in zone because he can find holes. The problem is he isn’t fast or quick enough to win man coverage against decent corners.

It was disastrous the few times he was their “number one” receiver.

I’m glad they’re going with Dorsett. Much better upside and more physically gifted.

My prediction is he’s out of the league by 2020 if not sooner.

I like Hogan a lot too and it was a great signing. I’m just looking at what he really is at this stage of his career.

Demariyus Thomas would be a good fit in NE, but I could see him as the next training camp retiree.

He was terrible this year, I'm relieved he got signed away so we didn't overpay to keep, and thank him and wish him well.

That's not nearly good enough. I mean, Ellington & Harris...why even bother?

My post considers the possibility of 3 additional WR on the 53 who aren't on the squad today. I guess you need 4?
