Articles like this would get published during the season. News sites are starving for content. The only difference is that the OP probably wouldn't have noticed articles like these because there would be other stories to focus on.

My guess is Hogan submitted this to news sources to pick up to help promote his podcast with Chris Price. That is standard practice in media. Try to generate news on your show in order to get free advertising.
