Canty sucks. He was decent in Dallas, now he's just a lazy, broken down liability.
Quite possibly.
Then again, if he were that good we wouldn't be talking about potentially bringing him in for competition either, so that's something to keep in mind. It's all about trying to hit on these kinds of vet players who may still have
something to offer on some level. While we all want guys like this to be instantly looked over, it's just not realistic.
I think that for a lot of these guys the
name may be wrong, but the idea of that particular
class may be right. We could certainly use another vet DT who could add rotational/depth reps and possibly offer 3-4 sacks next season for sure.
The key of course, will be the specific salary situation and the injury concerns, along with scheme experience and obviously talent. Canty may not be a good fit for those reasons, but we can certainly expect a cap casualty vet or roster cut or two (or three) to be brought in along the same kind of mold as Chris Canty.
Unfortunately, since it's the offseason, we'll likely have to discuss about a million of these kinds of signings.
