Stay tuned folks, do not see why Durant would want to come here.. as much as talk radio has been yakking about it this week.
If he chooses not to, what is plan B????
Before the Horford signing you'd be correct - but now it's a very different story
But aside from Durant, Horford was probably the next most coveted Free Agent - in fact OKC wanted Horford to take less than the Max to pair him with Durant and contend for the title
Now the Celts have Horford at a Max, room for Durant at the max, and who knows who else they can add next year with the Cap going up - plus an All-Star in Isiah, plus a lot of very good role players who just got better with a real Center on the team (decent points and rebounds) - a guy who would also draw defenders just enough away from Durant to make him that much more effective
Add to that an exciting player friendly coach like Stevens, who seems to get the most out of this players - and all of that happening in the Eastern Conference where JUST with Horford the Celts are now on par with Toronto in being just a step behind Cleveland ...
Well, if Durant wants a young up and coming team where HE gets credit (unlike say, Golden State) for being the unquestioned Biggest of the New Big Three (and Ainge now has two!) - well, don't look now but the Celts just may have moved AHEAD of OKC in the odds on favoritate to sign Durant
This is basically Ray Allen signing here joining Paul Pierce - that alone makes for a much better team next year.
Add Durant - and Durant knows this - the Celts, who already seem to have close games against the Cavs - now have a MUCH easier path to the finals than any other team in the West does
Yesterday I would have said I would be surprised if Durant signed
As of now I'll just say I WON'T be surprised if he does.
