Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

What question that is never asked? Who in the NBA, right now, would you want instead of Jason Tatum? If you pick a different player you are an idiot.
Interesting way to frame the question. I don’t think anyone would say Tatum is the best player in the NBA, but that is different than what you’re asking. Hmmmm.

I understand your point, but I think it is an age thing. Brown and Tatum were held back due to their youth more than by Smart. Tatum has transformed his body and now he has to adjust his shooting to match his body and then he will be a beast. Just like Brown did, but Tatum will excel even more. Tatum will be a better shooter in 2025 and 2026 as he transforms into an NBA beast.

What question that is never asked? Who in the NBA, right now, would you want instead of Jason Tatum? If you pick a different player you are an idiot. Tatum has the build, the moves to the hoop, and now he has to re-establish his shot. After re-establishing his shot, Tatum will be a beast. The NBA guys know that so Tatum is 1st team All NBA. The idiot Internet posters and NBA expert commentators still do not get it, but they will over the next two years.
I agree with the Tatum comments. He has not peaked.

Would be Holiday’s range.

Obviously very well-deserved. The C's will lock up DWhite and Tatum this summer,
joining JB,KP and Jrue. Looks like Big Al is back for at least one more.
Highly likely they'll keep Hauser too who really raised his game, especially defensively. Pritchard also locked up and I think , Kornet.
The only thing needed is a stretch big capable of spelling both KP and Al, hopefully a 2way player.
Don't know what options are available.
I would prefer a vet who can contribute right away.
Developmentally, a stretch big to replace Al when he leaves and Jrue is still at the top of his game but not getting younger.

I didn’t attend the parade myself but was out and about in the city several hours later. C’s fans everywhere, great energy. It’s the first time in a very long time where you can say the Celtics are the king of Boston sports.

Bruins can’t get out of their own way, Pats are garbage, Sox management doesn’t care. It’s cool to see the Celtics fully capturing the cities attention.

It’s crazy to me the Celtics have only won two championships in almost 40 years. It’s not like they’ve been a bad franchise or even a mediocre one.

I wonder why there's only 13 Boston titles mentioned. Boston has had 3 times that many.

Edit: Upon further review it may have been only the parade years.

I had the same experience. When I came out of the tunnel heading to the North End all I could see were people, lots of them. When I turned up Hanover it was an even more incredible looking mass of green humanity. Man what a great day that was.

They were being punished by the NBA for the previous 20 years of kicking the Laker's asses. Plus, they had some serious bad luck after Red made some great moves as the GM. They had Bias, Reggie and the best chance at Tim Duncan, but lost it all.

I like to look at the big picture. Boston teams have won 39 titles and if not for a few blunders, Brady, Ruth, Buckner and Orr, they could have had more.

Btw, I was watching a show the other day where Max got giddy over them passing the Lakers. It must mean a lot to him to be part of the best NBA team of all time.

Max was also pretty interesting when he commented about the Tatum/Brown relationship being like Batman and Robin. He scoffed at that idea but said that he was Bird's Robin. He was right.

Turns out we have one of the best coaches in the NBA.
One of his mentors was Jerry West, a fellow West Virginia alum.
Joe even lived in West's house in LA for a short while one summer when he was playing at the summer leagues at UCLA.
Some of the stories from that are hysterical. Jerry was like his father and would cuss him out when he woke up late for the open gym at UCLA.
Joe also credits Jerry for turning his game and life around at West Virginia when Jerry came by after his sophomore year and laid into him for over 10 minutes with a profanity- laced tongue blasting on how he was wasting his talent and his opportunity. It worked. Mazzula got his act together.
I think West is very proud of him.
I'm also sure Jerry refused to watch any of the parade and was probably cussing so much at the C's passing the Lakers they might've kicked him out of heaven.

Joe and the players learned quickly.

I remember at some point in the past asking where Joe came from. This answers that question.

Jerry had a good eye for talent.

Additionally I hear Kevin Durant is interested in joining the Celtics

I had no idea about any of that. Good stuff…thanks !

Having the opportunity to listen to Joe speak in depth about his basketball philosophy, acknowledge his rookie season errors, discuss putting together his preferred program and staff in the offseason, and watch his growth in the ECF and NBF, as I've said before, I couldn't be happier to be wrong about him.

I've very much enjoyed learning about the man and how he approaches basketball. Everything he's said, put into the context of what the Celtics were trying to do, now makes perfect sense to me. It's a good reminder as a fan, to take a step back and realise, these guys forget more than we'll ever know about their sport.

I was at one or both of 81 and 84…yeah I recall the procession ending at the large cement Gov. building as well.
Don't know about you but alcohol was the main reason for clouding my memory....
