Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Wasn't the Conference Finals thread on the main forum? I don't remember people complaining about it. It's the Finals of a Boston team.
There are still Boston sports fans on this forum, I would think. If the mods or the Boss decide to move it so be it.

Maybe this should be on the main forum.

The finals kick-off, err, tip-off tonight at 8:30

The Celtics are -6.5 for this game and about -225 to win the series.

Kristaps Porzingis is expected to make his return after missing the last two series with a calf injury. The rest of the team is about as healthy as can be hoped.

Barring any injuries we should be hanging banner 18 in October.
If Dirty Harry can have his own thread the Celtics certainly deserve theirs.

Love how much the media has been pumping up the Mavs. Every story like "How will they stop Luka and Kyrie?"

Conveniently never asking "How will Luka and Kyrie stop The Entire Celtics Team?"
(Because apparently it's not the Mavs we're playing, we're just playing those 2)

Funny how much people think this is in the bag for Luka.

**** them, LFG.

I'm just rooting for the NBA season to be over.

Same with the Stars vs Oilers.

The pregame panel had the Stars rolling over the Oilers while Grestky sat there pretty much quiet letting them talk.

Odd. I'm getting the opposite vibe. The articles I've seen all focus on how the Cs are much better overall and should win this thing handily--especially with KP back. Consensus is Luka and Kyrie need to go completely bonkers for the Mavs to have a shot.

I think it's true that the Celtics are a lot deeper, versatile, and talented than the Mavs. You could also say, though, that in a lot of Mavs games they were out-talented but managed to stay close enough that Doncic (and to a lesser extent Kyrie) could steal victory from defeat in the last minute. I favor the C's (and I am not a Celtics fan, per se), but you don't want the Mavs having the ball for a final shot and a tie game or even down 1.

Yeah, ESPN did their picks and it was 8-7 Mavs win.

I'd be really surprised if he didn't start

I think he's fully ready to go and will have a great series. I think he would have returned in game five or six in the last series if they needed him and he's had a lot more rest since then
We'll see. A fully healthy Porzingis is an elusive commodity. You could be right about him starting, but I would be willing to bet they have a minutes cap for him, at least to start off the series. Horford is more than capable of filling the void.

Unless things are going very poorly for Boston I would expect Porzingis to play 20-25 minutes in Game 1. It will become evident very early if he is 100% or not.

What I am liking about the Celtics is that they are not dependant on the 3's ... especially when cold ... Also all the negative Tatum talk about him fail to mention he most every game leads the team in rebounds and often assists ... mediots talking ****.

I think the Celtics are going to shut down Kyrie and force the Mavs to play uncomfortable.

But what do I know ...

Tatum is the best player on the C's by far.
Brown is a great player and really improved this season, playoffs included.
But lets be real. He gets more scoring opportunities because Tatum is often doubled. No, this nothing to do with G.Arenas opening his stupid yap.
It's just obvious especially in playoffs.
Tatum doesn't get enough credit for not forcing the issue when doubled and passing to an open man.
White and Holliday are great as well, but Tatum is the best player on the team.
And no, it's not really close.
I love all these guys including KP and we're gonna need him. I don't know what he's physically able to do or not do, I'm a bit leery. It's a tough injury to recover from.
It’s important though to make a critical distinction that’s often the difference between winning and losing.

Tatum is their best overall player.

White is their best player in crunch time.

Interesting. Audio/video media I've seen is the opposite, in fact, I'd love a good breakdown of how these teams matchup against one another.

Can't argue with that. Though I really like what I've seen from Tatum and Brown in crunchtime in playoffs this year.
Now if JT can shoot a little better in crunch vs. Mavs, we'll be more than good.

The role players for the Mavs have to continue to play well both offensively AND defensively. That was the key to their run - they've played defense well above their season averages against two very good offensive teams in OKC and Minny.

The Cs should continue to attack mismatches (Holiday and White can feast against Irving) relentlessly, and KP pull Lively away from the basket.
