Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

What we want and what is actually happening are 2 different things. White is a very good player and I’m very happy he’s with the Celtics.
Agreed. Excellent player. We have the best starting 5 in the NBA. I'd like him to be extended. Not sure what Brad is waiting on?..

Thank you for sharing this. Sorry if I'm appearing to confuse you on waht I'm trying to say. Thank you as well as I enjoy alot of your post, and you and I typically agree on alot of topics.

I was being fecious on when I made that comment on how GMs and owners view players. Brown commanded a Max contract becuase as you know that's what teams are allowed to offer players who they identify as Max players. Brown like white in alot of ways was raw when he first came in the NBA. He worked and got better each season. Brown is more athletic gifted than say white wich helps his game alot especially getting to the rim. White is a player every coach wants. Super clutch, excellent defensive player, became one of the leagues best 3 point shooters. He may not be considered a Max player, but I believe he deserves a nice contract extension say in the range of what holiday got. In terms of hierarchy everything ebbs and flows around the Js. Of course as you know. I want this team to be kept together I hope white can be extended hate to lose him.
Maybe this is all just semantics about athleticism, but I think White is extremely athletic, it’s just that his strength is more in his reflexes and quickness rather than raw strength and prowess. He led the NBA in blocks among guards.

Brown is an exceptional athlete though, so I won’t argue White is more athletic. Certainly I’d argue he’s more coordinated and precise. Brown’s athleticism serves him as a slasher and shot creator: White’s athleticism serves him as as ball distributor and defensive disruptor.

It just annoys me that (not you but) so many broadcasters act like White is the little engine that could, using his will and attitude to overcome modest physical shortcomings. Such a bad but often repeated take.

Heard similar dumb takes about Brady for years. Just because Brady wasn’t traditionally athletic doesn’t mean he wasn’t an exceptional athlete. People just don’t dig deeper to figure out what physical gifts he has and just focus on the ones he doesn’t.

Well said. You know what your spot on. I have no argument there. Broadcasters as you know have to make comments to take up air time and keep the audience into it. So it's not surprising they have dumb takes. White has those long arms, and elite basketball instincts. Love his game, his attitude and what he brings as a ball handleee as well. At 6'4 pretty impressive. White reminds me of Dennis Johnson.. this celtics line up reminds me so much of those guys.. bird, DJ, Michale, parish, all those celtics greats. I really appreciate what White brings. I rem scal saying how the Js kept telling him they wanted White to shoot more. It's absolutely helped big time. He was what 40% this season from 3?

But what if your aunt was a man--who then underwent a sex change operation.
Then she'd be your uncle all over again. I mean, he would. To further complicate things, what if after the sex change operation changing her from aunt to uncle( how does that even work?), he/she
discovers she's a man but a gay man. Wouldn't it have made more sense if she just remained your aunt? Would've saved her/him some serious $ anyway.
Yes. Wait, No! Perhaps? This is why I pretty much just talk about sports.

Rooting for the Wolves tonight

Who is saying White isn't an exceptional athlete?

All NBA players are exceptional athletes. Humans don't reach that level without being exceptional physically and possessing elite motor skills.

Based on White's versatility and level of play offensively and defensively he is clearly an exceptional athlete

Who cares who is best, 2nd best, or 5th? This team is gelling perfectly at exactly the right time. They have played lights out clamped down defense (team and individual) in the end of games. Even with all this talent there has never been a whisper of selfishness or demanding the ball. And plays like Tatum deferring to Horford for a corner 3 in crunch time tells me everyone on this team trusts every other person to make the play when it matters.

It's hard to win a championship as we all know. But what we've been seeing the past few weeks is damn near perfection. If I'm a coach this is what I want: a dominant record but not a lot of dominant wins. This team is battle tested. I for one will savor it. Arguing about the pecking order can happen in the offseason.

After watching Siakam, I got to wondering what the Celtics would have had to give up to acquire Siakam. The Pacers acquired the All-Star forward Pascal Siakam in the trade that sent Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks to the Raptors. And not withstanding what Porzi??is brought to the Celtics this season, he has always represented an injury-prone risk. From what I witnessed in the 4 games, Siakam would have brought a whole different dimension to the Celtics.

Yep. I want that series to turn really physical
I'm not sure it really benefits the Celtics to have Minnesota win any games here, unless they bring it to seven I suppose

Other than that, Dallas will be able to get their rest. And I think there's an argument for Dallas winning big tonight. They're very hot right now and a long wait might cool them off a bit, and also the Celtics biggest obstacle has always been in their heads. Definitely feels like they've overcome that this playoff run, but every little advantage helps, and having the nation blowing Dallas after a sweep would be just the thing to keep the Celtics sharp

Great point.

Siakam is a good player who had an impressive series but I’m puzzled why you think he’d have been a better fit than what we already have?

He’s not a big like Porzingis so that’s a completely different player. He’s a forward and we have two elite players who fill the role.

All the talk on the sports shows about how all our opponents were missing key players, but hardly any mention of the fact that we were missing Porzingis, one of our starters.

I heard Mazzhole fellating Luka and Kyrie so much it was gross.

He was insisting that Kyrie would torch Derrick White. I wonder if all these people will talk about it being such a big accomplishment to beat Dallas when it happens or they’ll revert and make an excuse for why it wasn’t impressive.

Among other funny questions they raised: was Tatum morose after the game because he didn’t win ECF MVP. Will Tatum want to leave Boston if Jaylen Brown wins Finals MVP?

An all star level player

Wasn’t sure there was a bigger complainer to the refs than Tatum and then I watch Luka. Wow.

Wolves look good, win tonight and they can definitely push this 6.

They’re getting swept
