Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Agreed. And I hope White, Holiday, and Porzi's style of play, ball movement, rubs off onto Tatum and Brown. Pritch is great at probing and distributing, let's hope the threes start falling. Hauser needs to be more consistent. To me, Al looks old. Hopefully we can add a mid level guy, to rest Porzi and Al. Someone like one of the Morris brothers, but maybe they are too expensive.
Agree. We need another stretch big. Maybe 20min a night from Al is all he has left but this is where we miss RWIII...the athleticism. Gabriel and Queta are not that player who can shoot like Al and jump out of his sneakers like RWIII. Tough guy to find. Hopefully Brad can.

I'm not a fan of blowouts in the playoffs. 1982 vs Phil and 1985 vs LA and they lost both series, thought Tiny's shoulder injury (IIRC thanks Mahorn from previous series) was the reason for the loss in 1982....
Agree. They get past Philly in 82 w/ Tiny. Not sure they beat LA but whatever.

'85.......Larry wasn't 100%. He already had bone chips in his right elbow (which got cleaned out in the offseason) messing with his shooting but he then fractured his right knuckle on his ring finger punching a bartender during the Sixers series.

General NBA Thought

Luka Doncic is an interesting player. He’s obviously phenomenal and fun to watch. But it’s interesting that the team doesn’t really improve with other guys like Porzingis, Brunson, and Irving. Porzingis and Brunson clearly can make other teams much better.

It is weird how some players aren’t necessarily selfish but their style of play (ball runs through them) caps the team’s potential. Most obvious example is LeBron (doesn’t make teammates better) versus Steph (makes teammates better.)

I think based on early results, Tatum is a player who makes his teammates better.

Damn, I missed the game last night.
There'll be more like that.
Jrue and Porz, along with their many other talents, are great chemistry guys.
The floor spacing is awesome with this starting five. So many ways they can score.
Then you have Jrue and DWhite, 2 All- nba defenders, and Tatum has also become a very good defender.
Brown has shown in the past( before last year), that he is capable of being in the same class as those guys. It's all about being willing to put in the effort.
Porz brings rim protection.
Very powerful guys like Embiid can give him problems down low but there really ain't many like Embiid to worry about.
And the super quick big guys like Bam are also a problem.
But he brings so much else to the table, he's still a major asset.
This is the most talented team Tatum has ever had around him.
Pritch and Hauser are both solid off the bench, as is Al, despite his age.
I agree with several of y'all that the one need is a stretch big off the bench.
Btw, one benefit of having huge leads consistently is your bench gets a lot of pt, increasing the odds that someone might really emerge as a contributer.

Omg the cringe. There is so much animosity in that room.

86 and 08 Celtics are the best i've seen.

They have a chance.....

Not sure I’m a fan of close games either. The 81 sixers series took 10 years off my life.

Never like either of their games.
A lot of Westbrooks triple doubles were meaningless. Then there's his bazillion turnovers a game.
You mentioned in another post that Tatum makes his teammates better.
I agree. Neither Westbrook nor Harden has ever really done that consistently.
Oscar,Bird,Magic,Lebron- their triple doubles were legit. Westbrook? No.

Sheer hell....but incredibly entertaining.

I challenge any NBA fan to watch the 4th qtr of G7 of the 81 ECF and say it wasn't the most physical basketball they'd ever seen.

0 championships between the two of them.

Thats all you need to know.

I love Doncic. LOVE HIM. But he hasn't figured it out yet.

IMO hes Michael Jordan circa 1988.

I was in college in upstate NY at the time and had to use rabbit ears to listen to the game on BZ I think. Game 7 was on a Sunday afternoon and was on national TV and the guys in the next apartment were from Philly.. Each side would bang on the wall when their team did well.....

As with Jordan, I think it’s the Mavericks who need to figure out how to build a team around a unique player.

Agree. They haven't figured it out either.

Look at the rag tag group they surrounded Nowitzki in 2011....

Shawn Marion
37 y/o Jason Kidd
Tyson Chandler
Jason Terry
Caron Butler

All good players that just figured it out...together.

Loved the 86 season like everyone else did, one thing that sticks out to me personally is I went to the only home game they lost that year vs Portland.
Jesus. They go 40-1 at home and you're at the loss..lol

That year my dad took me to Chicago (no Jordan) and G2 vs Milwaukee in the ECF.

After trying with Nash, Finley, etc. Basketball is so great, I love the sport. It really is all about the chemistry. I think that’s why people really never connected with LeBron and the brute force talent collections teams employ. I loved watching the Nuggets last year, they had the chemistry.

I've been following that Wemby kid for a while (speak decent French), and I'm curious to see how KP matches up during the Spurs game. If Wemby says healthy, and that's a big if, he's gonna be a problem for the league for a long time. I do miss Tacko, even though he sucked - too bad he couldn't develop even White Mamba level skills if not he would've been in the league for a long time.
