4 years/$16 Million with 8.5M Guaranteed.. WAY TOO MUCH F'IN money for Arrington..

Holy crap, that is near starter money. How much would a real CB like Talib get if that is what Arington is getting?

As we just learned with the Amendola contract, let's wait to see the structure.

Don't like the initial numbers of that contract.

That better be back loaded.

It's not a rumor. It's mostly a fact, and you'd know if you watched the Patriots play this season...especially in the first half of the season

I didn't think the joke in my post was so hard to figure out. I'll give you a hint, it was relating to pages of posts in this thread saying the same thing.

$4m per is almost certainly starter money if vastly superior CBs like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Sean Smith are only receiving between $5-6m per. I'll wait for the details before lambasting this deal but if this is true that's a shame. I was expecting something like $2-2.5m per for someone of Arrington's talent level/impact.

That feels alot like the Gregory signing last year. Way overpriced in a CB market like this. For a few millions more you could have gotten legitimate starters like Cox or Lewis. Genius how they played this bad CB market so far :bricks:

More than half's guaranteed, if the report is right. League numbers are $715,000 minimum for a 4-6 year player this year, and $730,000 minimum next year. That puts him at over $10 million before frontload/backload even starts to matter.

I've heard rumors that Kyle Arrington is good as a nickel corner covering slot receivers but not very good at covering outside receivers.

Can anyone in this thread confirm this rumor?

Phasers set to irony, captain.

...for $2mm more you could line up Welker in the slot, as Brown and Edelman have done. And maybe get some upside on special teams or offense...

That contract is awful. This would be an epic disaster if they don't resign Talib now.

Just Bedard's opinion, but his argument is that Arrington is undervalued by Pats fans and his market value would be 3-4MM.

the contract: wtf
very odd offseason.
welker only worth 2/10
Lloyd not worth remaining 2/9
Arrington worth 4/16

If you're going to pay arrington that much, why not just sign two safetys instead (for about 6m total) and move mcourty back to corner

Everyone needs to keep in mind, without arrington, we get shredded by the best wr trio in sb46. He held Cruz to 4 receptions for 22 yards. He isnt a decent slot Cb, hes a great one. The position is a near starter role in todays NFL.

Get four guys that can play outside so he can focus on the slot permanently for the next four years, and this is a good deal.

Our defense was at its best when he we had Talib/Dennard outside and Arrington in the slot. Wouldnt it be great to build on that chemistry?

If they sign Talib or Asomaugh too then fine. But if they miss out on all the real outside corners, this contract would be atrocious.

Again, people need to stop before we see the real contract. We already saw that Amendola contract was a very team friendly deal.

I was reading somewhere yesterday the sense is that Talib is likely to return to NE.

Otherwise, I completely agree. Arrington is what he is, and that certainly isn't an outside corner.

This could also mean they don't expect much of if any at all, impact from Dennard and his pending legal issue.

That or, the contract signed by Arrington was offered to Talib's camp which they in likelihood, balked at. And instead the Pats gave it too Arrington while moving on from negotiating with Talib. Similar to the what the Steelers did to Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown last season.

If its the latter scenario, you can expect it to be a virtually certainty that the Patriots will be drafting another CB in the first round next month.

That would make sense if there wasn't a surfeit of quality corners on the market.
