Catches and Fumbles

So how about those toe-tapping sideline catches? Where is their "football move?"

That's the reason behind "Or the ability to perform such an act."

the sideline made it unnecessary, but there was control such that they "could have done it"

SO I take it that if a catch is made in end zone with ball control, both feet planted in bounds and establishes possession and a defender knocks it out of player's hands its a TD?

Or, a Player catches a ball back of EZ with possession & both feet in bounds BUT a defender pushes him out of bounds and ball comes loose, it's still a TD?

Wasn't this whole "football move" thing a point of contention a few years ago? What constitutes a "football move"?

2 steps? turning? Shifting the ball to your other side?

That depends. For instance in Jameis Wnston's case a fumble is a football move, his signature one in fact.

So, in addition to "the catch rule", a few other changes have been made ...

The booth officials can now eject a player.

Players on IR can now be traded.

And, apparently, there's now some way to reacquire a player who's been claimed off waivers?

I'm still waiting for one decent rule to get adopted, now that a bunch of ****ty ones have been.

Is the player a Patriot? It matters!

The decisions will be case-by-case, and they'll be decided in New York. What could possibly go wrong?

Receiver at 50 reaches out to first down line hits the ground and the ball comes out. DB picks it up then whistles blow for an incomplete pass. Now it is a fumble. I set the over/under at 3.5 more fumbles per game.

So in the case of Dez's controversial non-catch (shown in that video), it's not a fumble, because he was down before the ball started coming out, right?

But as far as I can tell, if the ball had started coming out right before his knee hit, it would be a fumble, because possession was established. Similar to the question asked in the OP.

And also in the video, Ellington would have been a fumble, and James would have been had he been in the middle of the field (as opposed to crossing the goal line).

So yes, there are gonna be a lot more fumbles.

There is no rule book where the Clement catch is a touchdown..

ESPN reporting the new catch rule was used in the SB - before it was a rule! WTF!!! It was the new rule that made the Eagles’ catches TDs. What kind of league is this???

Riveron acknowledged it. You can now go to sleep secure in the knowledge that the Patriots would almost certainly have won the Super Bowl if the NFL hadn't changed the rules right before the game.

Yes, if the game was called the same as the ones during the year. You could take off the philly special play and the bobble t.d.

Which means there's also likely to be more frequent and lengthy episodes of intense HD, slo-mo video scrutiny of whether or not the ball-carrier was contacted by a defender on his way to the ground.

And I agree with, I think Phil Perry's take. So after two feet down and a twist he has completed the catch and is therefore no longer a defenseless receiver.
