Camp surprise cut 2024

I always love these threads that are about "surprise" cuts and half the players named are guys that struggled last year and are making no money.

a "surprise" cut could also be a surprise given a players draft pedigree. J Andrews, Thornton, Ryland all recent drafted players.
Zippy was the teams starting QB last year to end the season, to now being the 4th guy in line or out could also be somewhat a "surprise"

a week ago I'd say Osborn is crazy to suggest on this list... but, the JSS news is interesting. WHAT IF he actually looks like the most pro WR on the roster, especially with Bourne taking some time to work in? A week ago I didn't have JSS making the team, but things could change. We KNOW Bourne, Pop, Polk, Baker will be on the roster. But if Bourne starts on PUP say, it could be interesting. I still think Osborn is the Bourne comp to fill in, but could JSS & Reagor, or even Boutte push him out?

Surprises would be like Hunter Henry or Gonzalez.

Any starter from last year would be a "surprise", as would any of the draftees this year. Beyond that, nothing would surprise me.

That's my point. Gonzo, Judon, Hunter Henry, Pop... Those guys are core guys now. IMO, anyone not on the starting roster isn't "safe".

No one would be surprised if the QB room was Maye, Milton and Brissette. So Zapp could be the odd man out. He has no trade value. So he gets cut.

Ah... I see what you mean. Well I believe it's imminent he isn't on the roster. If it looks like he's on the outs then the team should do him a solid and release him during camp. Unless he's kept around as a camp arm?

I don't see how anyone that is safe on a team that was 4-13 and under new coaching staff and new GM or whatever Wolf's title is. It's certainly easy to look at the core guys, plus the new draftees and say "yup, ok, these guys stick". Beyond that, if you are a returning guy and you're not first on the depth chart, might want to have your real estate agent on stand by.

Agreed. Is why I remember j. Jones saying he lived in a hotel basically first few months in NE becuase he wasn't sure he'd stick around. I'm sure there are some other players up for cuts.. Bledsoe perhaps? Maybe Wade if he doesn't build off of last season? Anyone else?

QB: Maye and Brissett. Prob Milton but it's not a slam dunk.
RB: Rhamondre and Gibson.
WR: Pop, Polk, Javon Baker, Bourne. KJ Osbourne would definitely be a surprise cut.
TE: Henry.
OL: Onwenu, Andrews, Mafi and Sow probably. Caeden Wallace.
DT: Barmore and Godchaux.
DE: Wise and White.
LB: Judon. Bentley and Jennings? I dunno.

Yeah man.. good list... Harris Jr?.. wise? Are names to maybe consider? I definitely believe a majority of the O lineman are safe that group has just been so injured ravaged need all the O line help can get. Godchaux would be another surprise cut . I believe outside of the core guys I don't forsee any other surprises.. anyone who gets cut we likely knew it.. the team can hold what 90 during camp and will have to get down to 53 by cut down day.

Oh you're definitely sensible. It's been mentioned before that Judon could have been a possibility. The good thing is the sides are working on and extension. I would think it would have to get really bad during negotiating for the team to either cut or trade judon. As good as we were last season up front he was sorely missed.

Ryland wouldn't be a surprise, nor would Thornton, who's done nothing, is in year three, and has no guaranteed salary left.

KJ Osborne is a Bourne clone we are going to love him.
