Camp surprise cut 2024

Side note Boney T's improvements would make it very easy to cut Juju but I'm not holding my breath on that possibility.

Ryland wouldn't even be a surprise, though. The guy who picked him no longer has a key card to get in the building. Cutting players you didn't hand pick is easy.
It's not Ryland its' Wide-Left.

I like that there seems to be a real bond developing between these three.

It seems even stronger with Maye and Polk.
I watched both guys and love em both Wolf solved our WR situation.

Don't think it will happen but that's what would make it a "surprise"cut.

KJ Osborn. Maybe Bourne is healthier earlier than expected and Polk and Baker look like they can play right out of the gate. With Douglas already a lock maybe Osborn gets left standing when the music stops on the 5th and potentially 6th spot. Don't know off hand if he has any special teams experience but I would assume the 5th/6th receiver would likely need to offer something there.

Austin Hooper. Not guaranteed a ton of money but due to the lack of depth and him being familiar with AVP that would make him getting cut a surprise. Nevertheless maybe Bell or Wilcox push Hooper down the depth chart and Wheatley ends up sticking as a tackle eligible blocking TE type.

Other than that no real surprises. Juju sucks but he's owed some money so I think he's got a 50/50 chance to make the roster. Maybe a young guy who won't be a scheme fit under the new regime like Mapu or White or a vet like Wise. Once again I don’t think any of those guys will get cut but it would certainly be a surprise.

I dunno man. I think it's easier to go thru and say who's safe.

QB: Maye and Brissett. Prob Milton but it's not a slam dunk.
RB: Rhamondre and Gibson.
WR: Pop, Polk, Javon Baker, Bourne. KJ Osbourne would definitely be a surprise cut.
TE: Henry.
OL: Onwenu, Andrews, Mafi and Sow probably. Caeden Wallace.
DT: Barmore and Godchaux.
DE: Wise and White.
LB: Judon. Bentley and Jennings? I dunno.
CB: Gonzalez, Marcus, Jonathan. Bolden?
S: Duggar, Marpu, Schooler (special teams), Peppers.

Specials: Cardona and Baringer.

So that's what I got. I probably missed on some.

There is going to be serious competition at the guard position. I wouldn't assume mafi is safe. That would be one hell of a wasted draft pick on Robinson.

Yeah, I am pretty much thinking anyone drafted this year is good. Late rounders Milton and Bell are probably ok only because of the position they play and the athleticism they bring. Dial is a sixth rounder, so he's probably not a lock.

KJ??... hard to see.. guys a playmaker on the outside. He would really have to stink it up in order to be cut..
There’s a lot of WR’s here, just no one that’s a true #1.

In that scenario, basically the two rookies, Douglas, Bourne, Juju move ahead of him on the depth chart.

I don’t see that last one playing out, but that would be the scenario.

I think he’ll do well here, but we’ve seen vet receivers come in and not make the team hundreds of times.

Agree. I believe someone will emerge as the #1.. currently that guy is pop.. he would command the team's best CB if we played today. The collection of WR'S we have now have much greater potential.. than I'd say in years past. The system now is much more WR centric. Training camp will be the true test.

Baker and Polk are 2's who will merge into a #1's you'll see.

What improvements?
Adding weight so the ground stops hurting him ?

There's always one. Your predictions?

My pick is Chad Ryland. Might have been Strange but he's probably hitting PUP or IR.
Ryland just looks like a guy who misses big kicks. He looks like an IRS auditor, not a winner.

Joe Milton III would be a shocking cut for many on this forum. Given Mayo’s recently stated preference to carry 3 QBs, it’s possible. They’d probably try to get him on the PS and hope for the best.

I'd like to add Tavai to your list he's quickly become one of our best players.

Yes. He's a starter too so he would have to look like Gary guy guyton for mayo to have to cut him. I think he got a extension too?

Would Mapu getting cut be a surprise? I don’t see him as a FS, he’s got Dugger and Peppers ahead of him at SS, pretty small for a LB. What the hell is he for this team?

I’m a bit more annoyed about him being picked than I am about a guy like Thornton. At least with Thornton you can see what his role could be (if he could stay healthy and not run lousy routes and catch the ball a lot more than not).

They passed on multiple OT prospects they needed a lot more than a “tweener” like Mapu. Maybe he wouldn’t have lasted until the pick in the 4th round (#112) they stupidly used on a kicker, but FFS their debacle last year could not have been worse with say Dawand Jones (#111) and Pierre Strong rather than Mapu and Wheatley.

Here are some of the guys available at #76 and before 107 where they took Jake Andrews (too high IMHO) in 2023 who I think bring more to the table than Mapu:

Byron Young, DE
Tucker Kraft, TE
Josh Downs, WR
Devon Achane, RB
Wanya Morris, OT
Darnell Washington, TE
Michael Wilson, WR
Ricky Stromberg, C
Tre Tucker, WR
Kelee Ringo, CB
Blake Freeland, OT

I won’t bother listing Nacua here but obviously the whole league missed badly with him lasting to #177. So what the hell do I know? I hope Mapu makes me look like an idiot with this post

Mapu could have some ST value.
I would like to see him after a full healthy offseason and training camp. Takitaki also will get some snaps in that tween LB role.
