During the final day of roster cutdowns, defensive back and special teamer Justin Bethel became a surprise release by Bill Belichick.
Bethel spent the last three seasons in New England as a key contributor on special teams.
Over his NFL career, Bethel has played for the Arizona Cardinals (2012-2017), Atlanta Falcons (2018), Baltimore Ravens (2019), and Patriots. He has earned three Pro Bowl nods and two first-team All-Pro honors.
The Patriots will save $1.15 million in cap space from releasing Bethel and put a dead hit of $883,333 on their books.
Although Bethel isn’t subject to waivers due to his veteran status and could return to the Patriots, his latest post on Instagram indicates he is moving on.
