I have heard the projected 12,5m APY for Ryan now multiple times in the last few weeks from various "experts". Like I said if in addition to the Titans there is another true player he will most probably reach that.

The Cb market is always inflated.

Logan Ryan making $12.5/AVV seems insane. However when you look at everyone else on this list, it isn't.

Cornerback Contracts and Salaries | Over The Cap

Even the #16 on the guaranteed $ received $15m

#8 received $12m/AAV

This is the going rate for CBs.

Hell Tramon Williams received a $21m deal last year w/ $10m guaranteed last year.

Blount would be a huge loss. Lock the beast up.

Blount wouldn't be as big of a loss as you think. By the end of the year, Lewis was the starting RB again with Blount getting the call on the goal-lines and in sub situations.

I could see the Pats looking at a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Yeah!!!! Love Develin... I'm glad he's back. Good FB and depth at TE too...

I saw that the Ravens FB Juszczyk could also be a Free Agent.. There is a guy who'd make an excellent #2TE to have.. You could line him up in the backfield with Develin and a RB, then move him next to Gronk or to the other side put him in motion since he's also decent catching the ball out of the back field.

I think at this point it's not even the CB market anymore but FA in general. The salary cap is rising faster than the salaries are being adjusted to the point where laughably big contracts last year seem close to a bargain this year. Every year you got a market reset almost all across the board because of that.

Timing is everything in life..

He isn't signing for such an amount - that is way under his value. And if Jimmy G stays then we may need the franchise tag for him next year and not Butler.

Corners like Butler get $12.5m minimum (see Janoris Jenkins) and with the cap going up he re`lay should be asking for $14m a year. Plus he has grossly outplayed his contract. It would sting me if I'd played my heart out for 19 games and got paid under a million bucks and then seen Michael Floyd get paid $2-3m by the Pats to be inactive for 5 games.

First off, Butler is eligible for bonus pay from the league..
Secondly, Floyd only got 1.2M from the Pats and that is because of his contract that was signed when he was with another team.

Thinking the two are even remotely comparable shows a lack of understanding about NFL Contracts that is below the basics.

I can already hear the live thread folks shouting at McDaniels for being too cute.

I bet you are right.

Just seems CBs are more overpaid than any other position. Byron Maxwell, Josh Norman, Mevis a couple of years ago...

Logan Ryan is about to get about 500x the amount of hate he got when he was with the Pats. Whatever team is gonna pay him $12-14m per and will put him on an island as a #1 and it's gonna go bad because he doesn't have an All-Pro Safety helping.

Whoever signs him as a #1 CB deserves the train wreck that this will be. He is pretty good at what he does but needs to be used appropriately. Works for me if we get him back for peanuts in a year or so

They are... it's a pass first league and most teams are in sub packages over 60 percent of the time now.

Ask the Ravens. They grossly misused Arrington on many occasions. They're the gift that keeps on giving. Lol

Not my money.... but I'd pay that in a heartbeat for Hightower, and on a short deal for Bennett (if possible). Wouldn't touch Ryan with a 10 foot pole for that money.

Now that would be something. In a league moving away from the Fullback to a degree... BB would have two good ones!

I agree that he would be a nice addition.

I can imagine him and Develin opening holes that you or I could run through with ease.

I mean fairplay to Logan for striking while the iron is hot but I am pretty comfortable with Butler (hopefully extended), Rowe at $878k, Cyrus Jones at $910k (especially if he just focusing on defense and on returning kicks) and Jonathan Jones (he looked solid in the limited time he played) at $540k and a maybe a draftee or a free agent reclamation like DJ Hayden than paying Ryan $10m per which according to sources isn't even close to his market.

Not sure about the "top 5 CB" comment, as PFT doesn't even have him on their top 100 free agents list, despite including 5 other RFAs and an "almost made it" section. I don't know if they made a mistake or not, but his absense is glaring.

I will certainly agree that he isn't going to get a long term deal AND a first round pick, although the team should be trying to lock him up due to the rising cost of the CB market.

PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100
That's clearly an oversight by PFT, and although they are flawed, PFF had him as their 3rd highest rated FA (they included RFA's), not just CB's but 3rd overall. FO's had him in their top 5. I know these services have to be taken with a grain of salt, but when we are "rating" players they are about all we have.

Meanwhile once they put the tag on Butler he'll be guananteed about a 350% raise, at least, and then be a FA next season.

The Pats will get killed by the mediots (Felger in particular) if they "just" pay Butler $4MM next year, but that is the system that exists and the players agreed to. It sucks for a player to get squeezed by the team when they are RFA's, but it sucks for the teams when they have to overpay FA's who will rarely play up to the level of the money they get, even when they play pretty well.

Someone is ultimately going to have to pay Danta Hightower over $12MM/yr over a LT contract despite the fact he only participated in 67% of the defensive snaps, and had 114 NFL players with more tackles than he did. But because he is an UFA and a good player, so he will get that money. In fact, hope it's the Pats who pay it.

IMO, you shouldn't criticize the Pats since the system works both ways. And my initial instict to feel bad for Malcolm, is almost immediately mitigated by the fact he WILL be making $4mm next season.

Why would butler give up free agency for a pittance?
because that $16MM might be more than he would get over the next 2 years and gives him a lot more immediate money THIS season, and protects him against having a bad season or an injury filled one that would affect his potential earnings.

But you are right, IF he plays as well this season, and IF he remains as healthy as he has been, he would probably make more by simply playing for his tender this year and cashing in the next. Personally at his size and the aggressive way he plays, I'd take the $8-10MM up front over the $4MM he'll get. We all know that in the NFL, every player is one play away from a career or season ending injury.

Somebody will be happy to get Duron Harmon. Solid starting safety.

Ryan will get paid as a number one and fail miserably at it. It would behoove his agent to accept a lesser deal from NE if it's good money (which I'm sure it would be).

Hightower to Oakland would be priceless as they a) aren't going to be as good this year as last, and I was high on them last season. I'm sure HT signing a massive deal in Oak would make Mack happy. Not. So go for it Oakland.

Bennett will go somewhere where we then hear stories in TC about fights and he will spout off post game after the losses pile up.
