If he does eventually go to NO BB and Payton will work out other terms.
All can I think of is that Pats wanted a 3rd rounder and Saints thought it was too high but offered fifth rounder and they compromised on the 4th rounder, knowing that it essentially was a 4th rounder just lower than the one given (#118) since it got the Patriots back what was the highest 4th rounder previously forfeited( 10 picks lower)...due to Goodell's theft...Given the Cooks deal and that Butler was untradeable at the time it's likely that if N.O. and Butler agree to a contract then a trade has already been agreed to once Butler signs the tender and becomes tradable.
The weird part is the inclusion to us in the Cooks deal of the #4 which we lose. Between the two teams, we lost value there (by having a higher pick taken away) and if Reiss is right it's now untradable. They didn't have to include a #4, there has to be something going on with that but I have no idea what.
So if he signs an offer sheet and the Pats don't match, what is New Orleans required to give the Patriots.......???
The only way it would be anything else, is if the Pats match the offer sheet and then trade him to New Orleans for something other than #11...And you can bet the league and the NFLPA would be screaming collusion and putting Ted Wells on speed dial....
And if the Pats matched and traded him would there be cap implications for any signing bonuses or would it all fall on the Saints???
and get the 12th for Jimmy?? Or the 1 and 12? Yeah baby.
I don't know how this is going to work out, but if the Saints give up their 11th pick AND have to give Malcolm a new contract, then the Saints FO will get run out of town. The Saints could have gone after any of the FA CBs available and not have to give up their pick. The draft is also stacked with CBs and they are well positioned to get one with the 11th pick, without having to give a massive contract since it's going to be a rookie.
The difference is that Butler is a known quantity and a top NFL CB unlike a rookie CB.I don't know how this is going to work out, but if the Saints give up their 11th pick AND have to give Malcolm a new contract, then the Saints FO will get run out of town. As far as I'm aware, the team HAS to give up their OWN pick which would be #11 - they can't elect to send a different pick acquired from a different team instead.
I don't think anyone expects Butler to go and neither #1 (very likely #32) coming back to us. You're making stuff up again. What a terrible deal if the saints still have both first rounders and butler. You gotta gotta kidding me. Butler's a top 15 corner.
So say the Saints sign him to an offer sheet, Pats don't match.
We, in essence, traded #32, one year of cheap Butler, and a late 3rd for #11, an early 4th (that the league stole) and two years of cheap Cooks.
I thought BB liked Payton.
Butler's a top 15 corner. You downplaying butler as a player. If tbe saints give up 32 they better give up another pick.
