Brissett works overtime to help Floyd prepare

I went to the Texans game. Needless to say, it was a little disheartening to think I had spent all that money and traveled so far just to see a rookie third-string QB play.

But, as I watched Brissette pre-game, I started to become a little more optimistic. The young man seemed so confident and professional. You could tell by how the veteran players interacted with him that they sincerely believed they could win with him and that the moment was not too big for him. It was quite impressive.

Then, once the game started Brissette broke off his Grogan-esque TD and made some really good passes including an opposite hash sideline pass which was a thing of beauty. All the while he was in control of the huddle and team. Even after big Vince fell on him.

This was before I watched him tough out a game with a torn up thumb, saw the Patriots unprecedentedly bring him on the road while on IR, and activate him from IR to be the backup to the backup. I left Gillette after that Texan game believing the Pats 3rd round QB had IT. That undefinable quality that many of us first noticed in the GOAT. The Patriots actions since that night and stories like the work he's doing with Michael Floyd, make me believe BB and the Pats think he has IT too.
After watching him in a couple of pre-season games i too thought he had 'IT'. He pobably is bradys successor

I too think that Brissett has "it". He needs work obviously, but another year or so and he will be ready. He seems like a leader.

But I think his biggest contribution to this years team might be in the lead up to the SB. He is almost the same size as Dak and would be great practice as Dak or Wilson, and he has enough size to play Roethlisberger. I don't think it can be understated how much a great look at practice helps the team.

He seems like the type of player who would thrive to give his team teammates the best looks they could get practicing for the big games to come.

I think Brissett is bigger than Dak. Earlier this season I was researching Jimmy G and saw that he was listed at 6-2 225, which is the same as Dak Prescott and Aaron Rodgers.

I just looked up Brissett and Wikipedia listed him as 6-4 235.

I know Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, but still, I see Brissett more in the Roethlisberger mold physically, and in playing style as well.

Brissett was 6'3 6/8" and 231 pounds at the combine and pro day. So basically 6'4", 230.

Interestingly that's exactly (I mean EXACTLY) what Jameis Winston was at his combine and pro day.

I'm sorry but If he's our heir, he has a workload infront of him to improve as a QB, I mean he has 4yrs to get it together so he has all the time he could ask for, but honestly I don't think he's the one, from watching his college highlights and Nfl games I just don't see how he can be an elite/top 5 qb, I know alot people are optimistic because of what happened with Jimmy but we were lucky with JG, and even then not even JG is guaranteed to last or even make it long enough to be considered elite, there's so many things JG has never experienced and situations he's never been thru in the NFL but I'm fairly confident JG has what it takess, for all we know both JG and JB could be busts, neither have played a full season or two or played long enough for opponents to have good quality tape on em to gameplan against so really there's no telling how well they would do in the long run, but overall JG shows the most promise, even when you compare both of their college tapes

If JG and JB were both in the same draft I think 10/10 JG gets drafted first, even by us

Brissette's size became apparent to me when watching the video of the Pats post game celebration after the Denver game. There was a scene with all three QB's. Both Brady and Garrapolo were still in pads while Brissette was in workout gear. Next to him, Brissette looked bigger and thicker than Brady without pads and Brady is one big dude.

Yeah, but Brady is pliable.

Odds are neither JG or JB will be half the player Brady was, and neither will the guys after that, and the guys after that. Look at the Dolphins still trying to find someone who is half as good as Marino. The Bills haven't replaced Kelly. The Broncos got a year and a half of peak Manning, but he was never the answer to Elway. The 49ers had Young to replace Montana, but nobody since.

One might look at Rodgers and the Packers as the best move, but even then, Rodgers needed several seasons to re-work his throwing mechanics. If you looked solely at his college tape, you wouldn't recognize him. And there's no way you'd pick Tom Brady to be the GOAT based on his college tape. Tons of guys develop and become way better than they ever were in college, or as rookies, so you can't discount it just because you feel like you haven't seen it.

Troy Brown, Wes Welker, Rob Ninkovich, Julian Edelman, and Asante Samuel are just some of the many Patriots who needed time to develop and mature. Great QBs like Brady, Wilson and Romo also developed into elite QBs despite showing nothing to predict that in college, while high-potential QBs like Smith, Rodgers, and Brees all needed several years before they emerged.

None of this is to say that Jimmy or Jacoby or the next 5 guys will or won't work out. But there's no way either of us can really predict it based on watching some Youtube videos or a game or two this season. Nobody knows, not even the players themselves.

I hope it soon becomes apparent that you are spelling his name incorrectly...

I don't know if Brissett will ever be the full time starter but I have a feeling he will be the back up when the pats trade JG for a 2th round pick next year

If he knows enough about the playbook to teach a teammate then he is certainly progressing.

That Belichick thinks he's worth the roster spot in order to give him a few extra months of practice with the team then that says something truly positive about him.

This helps confirm all the good things being said about him.

Floyd looks fat...he better get some overtime work in. Anything he gives us is gravy. Gotta hope Malcolm MItchell is OK, losing him would be disastrous.

Floyd is a 1.2 million dollar rental to provide elite WR depth come playoffs. If he is a quick learner, he could see extensive action in the playoffs (at least a third of the snaps). For Brissett, relaying to Floyd, along with play information, what Tom's expectations are for any given play can only help Brissett grow. He has two more years of understudy time (in my estimation) to be ready for the big lights.

I think people are putting to much thought into him being activated, it's about insurance, it's smarter to go Into the postseason with 2 backups instead one, one that can take charge and win (JG) should brady get hurt, 2 incase both Brady and Jimmy get hurt you have a guy that knows the playbook and can manage the game (JB)

I've often felt that one of the best ways to learn something is to teach it to others. so even while he is teaching Floyd he is learning and sharpening his own abilities.

This is definitely a thing, teaching is one of the best ways to learn. I know more about the fry vat than ever after I ran training on it.
