“I don't think Bill appreciated the way that Mac handled some of the stuff last year," Breer said. "There's a way that I think Bill thinks a franchise quarterback should conduct himself. And for the most part, Brady did conduct himself that way. I think there were certain things in the way that Mac handled his second year as a pro that Bill didn't appreciate.

"I don't know how in love the Raiders are with Mac. Like, if you're talking about getting their first-round pick, I don't think that's happening."

Jones often wore his emotions on his sleeveduring the Patriots' disappointing season. On multiple occasions, he was caught on the television broadcast yelling at coaches or simply displaying poor body language. Much of his frustrations were with Matt Patricia and the offensive coaching staff's conservative approach.

That, as Breer notes, didn't sit well with Belichick. That might be one reason the Patriots would be willing to hear what the Raiders have to offer in a potential trade for Jones.

"I think they would," Breer said. "Internally, I don't know if they see this massive gap between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. I'm not saying they think Bailey's as good as Mac, but there was some element of Bailey doing what he was coached to do last year that I think gave Bailey the edge to some degree for a little while there.”

Interesting to think on. I don’t think it’ll happen but it’s not totally farfetched. Bill trades Mac for pick #38 and signs Garoppolo, then uses #14 and #38 to fill the gaps at WR or CB and tackle? Then plans for Garoppolo to start for gives Zappe a shot at the job. Or perhaps just goes with Zappe, drafts another QB, signs a cheaper vet and uses the cap on other tools.

Again, unlikely stuff but it’s interesting to think on the potential scenarios. In all likelihood it’ll be Mac in ‘23.

That's a lot of speculation...

Or sign Carr?

I’d be upset if they just traded him straight up for a 2nd rd pick. I’d have to see a decent haul. Not all-pro multiple firsts type of haul, but a promising young QB on a rookie deal deserves more than a 2nd rd pick.

Going from Carr to Mac doesn't exactly move the needle click bait??.

My thoughts exactly.

In this years Draft I would take it as long as Jimmy G is on board then I would be open to getting D Hopkins. Hopkins - Rham - Thornton plus another Rookie WR we would have a potent Offense.

This coming season Josh has to prove that he can be a winning head coach with the Raiders, or he is out. Unless Josh has a great amount of confidence in Mac, I don't see him putting his future as a head coach on the kid's shoulders.

The Patriots have no other options at QB at this point. It's ride or die with Mac Jones.

Though, it will be interesting to see how hard Zappe will push him in camp this coming off-season. He has an outside shot of unseating Mac as the starter. Like the dumb and dumber "so I still got a shot" percentage... But still...

meh...I give Zappe a Fire Marshall Bill chance...

We will see how much Bill really loves Jimmy G.
Yeah I have been thinking about this. Even if Bill does like Mac, there’s a chance that he still really likes Garoppolo and wants to bring him back… Garoppolo’s price as a free agent probably isn’t that high after Purdy’s ascension. Will Bill give up the chance to bring Jimmy back for no other cost than straight cash? Maybe there’s nothing to it, but if he really does like Jimmy as much as has been sometimes reported, it’s an interesting factor.

I would be all for this but the article is pure conjecture
