Tough way to go out. Brand new facilities next year and he is kicked to the curb. Allen's window is closing and the Patriots success pushed them over the edge.

Losing the Division to New England and seeing them ahead of them in the AFC Championship game was probably the final straw. Had they won the AFC East, they probably wouldn't have been in Denver, which I'm sure has ownership frustrated. Especially since if ever there was a year for Allen to finally have a shot, this was it.

Instead, the door is now wide open for the Patriots, which would be a kick in the teeth up there in Buffalo. So I'm excited.

Another point: Their new stadium is opening next fall, fans just coughed up thousands of dollars for PSLs and season tickets, and the fans are sick and tired of the same old playoff collapse. McDermott has worn out his welcome. Far better to get a shiny young new coach to give their "lake effect snow" fans a big dose of hopium to try to get through the winter.

Not surprised. I would have fired him a couple years ago.

Weird year too because there's very few good candidates to replace these guys. I feel like most of the guys who got fired are all just going to end up taking the jobs of someone else who got fired. Harbaugh replacing Daboll, Daboll replacing McDermott, McDermott replacing McDaniel, McDaniel replacing Harbaugh, etc...
McDaniel with Lamar would be interesting

I think people on this thread were talking about Mike McDaniel and not Josh McDaniels

But I could be wrong
I meant Josh cause that seems to come up here when there's a coaching job open. He's not going anywhere.

I have to agree.

Imagine what Belichick could have done if he didn't lose his mind beginning with the night of SB 52. (The Pats would have won three straight SB's - 51,52,53 - he either could have won more with Brady going forward or he would have been in the same postion right now with the Buffalo Bills job landing in his lap).

A great mind is a terrible thing to waste.

All this because one of his players ****ed his son...

He lost his job the moment Kraft decided to replace Mayo with Vrabel.

If we still had Mayo, the Bills would be fresh off a home playoff win yesterday against whoever.

The Bills need a complete overhaul at WR & their defensive talent is average. McDermott isn’t a great HC but he continuously had his defenses play above their talent level.

They have to upgrade the roster with 5 draft picks and negative cap space and install a new defensive scheme. Good luck.

I can see Miami going hard after McDermott.

I think Vegas would be interested too.

If you are Vegas with Mendoza coming a package McDermott HC / Daboll OC could be tempting
I agree. The most interesting part of this story is not Buffalo. It's where McDermott will go next. He's an excellent head coach. His teams always play hard for him and he's developed a ton of good players from the NFL's least attractive backwater location. The fan base is excellent, but who wants to go to a third-tier media market where it's as close to the tundra as you can get?

McDermott would be great with a perennially soft team like the Raiders that have lost all the hard-ass DNA they had under Al Davis. But McDermott would need a three-year guaranteed no-termination deal. Las Vegas turns over coaches every ten seconds and he'll need time to build a culture there. If Jerry Jones would get the hell out of personnel decisions, McDermott would be great in Dallas that has turned into a joke. Miami would be good, too, but they need a QB. Las Vegas has the #1 draft pick and Dallas has Prescott.

This is actually great for New England that still has cap money, coaching stability, and a terrific young core of players on all three phases of the team. Buffalo descending into chaos is just what we need for another run in the AFC East.

One year too late in my opinion, so I'm not shocked. In all honesty, for a team that just needs to get over the hump and could use a guy for 2-3 seasons to do that, the nightmare scenario would be seeing Belichick end up there. But I don't know who he'd have for a staff, especially on offense, and that would likely be a big key to that and hurt his chances of that happening.

And let's not forget he still has Jordyn. . . .

Could go either way. A new HC could improve the team, but could also make it worse. McDermott was not the best coach by any means but he also was not awful. I have seen a lot of worse coaches. He made mistakes but he generally had the team prepared to play week-in and week-out and he didn't make too many baffling decisions. He is a bit above average IMO. If the Bills go for a flashy young hire and they turn out to be a dud, they'll be wasting some of the few years Josh Allen still has left that he can really still take punishment on QB runs.

Furthermore, unless they promote Joe Brady (which would bring its own potential challenges), Josh Allen will most likely have to learn a new offensive scheme which might not work out well.

Additionally, their front office has not really been very good; if they aren't making any changes there, then just changing the coaching staff isn't going to necessary pay big dividends, even if it's a good staff.

From what I gather a lot of the fans there have wanted him gone for probably over a year now.

As long as it’s not Josh McDaniels I could care less who Buff goes after.
I could see Josh taking that team over the hump.
Who wouldn’t want to coach Allen, plus it hurts us.
But I could just as easily see Kubiak, Daboll, Brady.
