It's easy, and only takes a few moments.People who say this usually point to the Patriots going 14-6 with Cassel, JG and Brissett as “evidence”. Problem with that logic is they missed the playoffs in 08 because they couldn’t beat good teams anymore and despite a 3-1 record they clearly were not a Super Bowl contender if Brady had missed all of 2016- quite a bit short of where they actually ended up. It’s clear as day what the difference is between a great team with Brady and just another team without him.
To be fair - I disagree with Cowherd criticizing Belichick’s record without Brady. He turned the Browns to a very good team before Modell pulled the plug on the franchise. And the Browns didn’t fire him... the Ravens didn’t hire him. There’s a difference. Belichick does have a lot to do with our success. Put Belichick on the 2011 Colts and they are a lot better than 1-15 when they lost Manning. Put a bad coach on the Patriots and we end up close to where the Colts did without Manning.
We have no idea how Brady would do without Belichick and it really doesn’t matter imo.

While you are correct about Belichick turning the Browns around, you are incorrect about them not firing him. Belichick was hired in 1991 on a 4 year deal. In 1993, he received a 2 year extension that would have taken him through 1997. Belichick and the team were told after a 4-5 start in 1995 that the team was moving to Baltimore. Belichick was informed that he wasn't going with them. The Browns proceeded to lose 6 of the next 7 games because the players essentially gave up. That's how he ended up as the Asst. Head Coach of the Patriots in 1996.
If this was a system, you would think, like the West Coast offense and others over time, that some team, any team would have copied it by now
Ahhhh, no! I’ve heard it the past 2 days on ESPN and the NFL Network.Yea, if it were just a system that could take any QB, and then matched with the sentiment that the Pats rarely have top flight WRs, then it would be seemingly easy to reproduce.
I don't think anybody calls Brady a system QB anymore. I think that went out the window for most people a decade ago.
I agree 100%!The "system" is that Belichick and his coaches, the Pats' personnel guys, and the Pats' players outwork everybody else in the league and aren't morons. And Kraft is smart enough to stay out of their way.
The "system" is that the Pats' top to bottom, act like grown-ups while pretty much everyone else is still stuck in their sophomore year in the frat house.
I agree 100%!
But without Brady, few would buy in. It still all comes back to #12. And I’m a huge BB guy.
Brady would be a great coachBrady is the role model for everyone else on the team, a prime example of BB's approach, which makes it easier for BB to get that buy-in.

Whenever we hear people say “yeah, but Brady has Bill Belichick”, they’re saying it’s the (BB) system.
But it’s not

Or, the coaching tree is not BB.It's all Brady. Look at Bill's coaching tree. They have all failed, why? No Tom Brady.
ESPN just wrote its article about how awesome Rodgers would have been in Brady's position on the Patriots under BB. Apparently would have crushed the career passing mark in 10 years. Yeah, the system crap is still there.
