Butler absolutely, positively makes that tackle...he might've even forced a fumble...

The combination of the blown points the offense/Skippy/Cookie threw away during the 1st half and this play during Philthy's first possession of the 2nd half is where the game was truly lost.

Playing in super bowls are the probably the worst football experiences he's had. Probably say the same for Welker.

He almost made up for it in LIII. Thank goodness for Jason McCourty sniffing out the read and making the play.

    OPTION 1
Belichick is one of the very best coaches of all time.

    OPTION 2
Some here could make better game decisions, better personnel choices, and obviously acquire better players in free agency and the draft. Belichick has only succeeded because of Brady; otherwise he's not very good.

    OPTION 3 (other)
I suspect that most are under 1 or 2 (certainly, I am).

The answer is OPTION 4, of which OPTION 1 would be a subsection and OPTION 2 would be partially incorporated.

    OPTION 4
Belichick is one of the best coaches of all time. But, like every other human in history, he makes mistakes. And he's been making more big ones lately. And sometimes other people, including geeks on message boards, get things right while he gets them wrong, including with personnel choices, free agency, and the draft. And he got where he is, at least in fair part, because he had Tom Brady helping to make up for shortcomings and errors.

The throw was on target, he just fell asleep on the play as Cooks was wide open. His delay in reading it allowed McCourty to recover and break up the pass.

LMFAO, forgive me if I find it hard to believe the guy who 'couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the c and the a' could in turn be capable of finding a way to massage the cap enough to get both Brady and the weapons he needs to be successful in under it. Because for all the anger, angst and BS that's what really drove the bus Brady left town on.

It was a duck though. Hung up in the air for way too long...and he could have thrown in to lead Cooks away from the only defender.

Butler had not been playing particularly well right before the Super Bowl and was clearly upset about his contract situation but he must have done something fairly significant for BB to bench him. I am probably in the camp with most fans in that short of killing someone I would have played him and dealt with whatever the issues were after the game. Seems to have done disservice to players like Brady where BB "maintaining his standards" seem to be a priority over winning the game. I think losing Jones the game before then taking away Butler just left the team too exposed in the secondary (reminded me of the end of the Panthers SB when the starting safeties were out) But without knowing what actually happened it's all speculation and maybe BB felt that not dealing with it as he did would have created long term problems with team.

And what was Brady to do when he realized that the team didn't want him? If BB wanted Brady to be the QB, he would have started to negotiate with Brady and his agent long before free agency started. The Pats were the only team who could legally talk to him before free agency. So it's not like they didn't have time. We will never know exactly what happened. They were able to get McCourty under contract before free agency. They could have done the same for Brady if they were interested. Or it could be simply that Brady was ready to move on. Maybe the team was ready to move on. It could be a little of both. Something broke down thats for sure. We will never know for sure. All we can do is accept it.
Bradshaw can say what he wants, makes no difference. Won't change a thing.

Very true. Still, I think the team would have kept him for 15ish but he wanted more. Oh well.

Brady had only one game in the second half of the 2019 season with a passer rating over 90. Even in 2001 he did better than that.

In 2001 he had a great run game enabling opportunities for passes to Brown & Patten.
And yes, Wiggins as a TE was better than the entire 2019 TE corpse.

McCourty made a great play. I was thinking Cooks would have been out of bounds even if he had caught it though. Maybe I'm wrong.

His last great season was 2017 when he won the MVP and played a great Super Bowl vs. Philly. His numbers have gone down since, whether it's due to lack of weapons or injuries.
