What's the story behind that -- was this just conjecture or on the record somewhere?

Oh it was in one of the Brady threads from one of the mediots. Just an add on to the failed offensive performance. I will try and resurrect it.

No it didn’t. He was largely throwing to the same supporting case at WR in 2019 and 2018. Want to know what hurt the offense’s development more? The worst TE corps in the NFL, Develin going down, and relying heavily on two rookies in the EP offense. OTAs in the NFL are the equivalent of on-boarding in the business world. They’re an ice breaker. A joke. The offense does not get installed until MC and TC, both of which he was present for. And has anyone ever stopped to consider that maybe BB himself was okay with that?

As I recall the cast of prospects was significantly different at WR/TE in the 2019 training camp vs. '18. We'll just have to disagree about OTAs being a "joke" for the team leader needing to get in sync with new skill players while setting an example for everyone else. The offense's misfires in training camp were well documented, a problem that very well MIGHT have been helped by Brady attending OTAs like he did faithfully from 2000-2017. It wasn't Brady who needed the work, it was the passing offense under Brady's direction that needed it.

Every team handles scheme installation differently and OTAs can be integral to laying the conceptual foundation for newly signed players and rookies. In a passing offense as complex as New England's, Brady being onboard early with the new recruits could have had a positive ripple effect through training camp into the regular season. As for BB's part, there's not much he can say or do about Brady's choice regarding an officially voluntary function. Brady being miffed about his contract situation also might have been a factor.

I don't know where you're getting this stuff from. I don't particularly care about social media, JE is a lovable idiot so nothing surprises me, I never claimed that all the problems this year were caused by missing OTAs. I don't get your entire point in fact. MY POINT is that I am a fan of the team. I will remain a fan of the team if Brady leaves (unlike a lot of posters claim in here), I will remain a fan of the team if Bill leaves.

Weis even said himself on NFL radio that schemes aren’t installed during OTAs for the team. They’re glorified team workouts. At his age, with how many extra games he’s played in the postseason throughout his career, he needs rest more than he needs to run gassers with his teammates. If you’re that dead set on defending a position that’s already proven to be absurd in 2018, tell me with accuracy what Brady missed in OTAs that he didn’t accomplish as a player and as a teammate during MC and TC. When this debate first happened, I couldn’t get a response on that question that was worth a damn. Literally (I hate that god damn word) every single thing that someone mentioned, Brady got in MC, TC, or both. Now I’ll pose it to you. Given your attendance at said activities, you should should be able to answer this question with ease.

Oh and since then, it’s been reported that they’re willing to give him $30M to stay. If that’s accurate, that’s a sure signal to maybe drop this. In this fan base’s haste to push the GOAT out the door, people have forgotten to consider that maybe, just maybe, Bill was okay with him skipping OTAs as well. Hell, that may have even been his idea in the first place.

Lol I love Tom but he might as well just do this. Some of his posts where he manages to get every sponsor in seemingly so nonchalantly is ridiculous. I’ll never forget the post a few years ago shot from the ground up where you see the under armor logo on the sole of his shoe, a TB12 hat, and the big Tag Heuer watch.
