Teams picking a #1 QB seldom have a “really good team/coach around them.”I don't think it's happened, or at least not any time recently that i can remember. I don't think they tanked, but the Bengals getting Burrows seems to be the most recent team to get to the Super Bowl with a QB picked #1. Goff on the Rams before that. There's Stafford, but he left the team that drafted him.
Personally, I don't think it matters if you tank or not, the evidence shows that #1 picked QBs often aren't good enough to get you to the Super Bowl without a really good team/coach around them.
If the Pats pick #1 and Bill is still coach they’ll be one of the few counter examples. If BB is not still coach they’ll have an unproven HC and they too will be picking a QB #1 without a really good team/coach around whoever they pick.
