Boston Sports Journal... worth subscribing to?

Isn't it fair to say every morsel of Patriots info lands on this board at lightning speed?
Isn't it also fair to say the speed of Twitter makes feature articles obsolete.

Reiss & PatsFans satisfies my needs.
Depends. Definitely makes the rags (Herald & Globe) worthless. But a place that has all, only Boston Sports that will also bring a reflection that is generally untainted by agenda and can give true reflection is FINE for me. I like Miguel and Chris Price. Professional and worthy of my $. The rest (headline stuff etc) like you say arrives here quickly.

I really like the BJS. Good information, especially during the season. He breaks down plays with video and talks about the strategy, what went right and what went wrong. Good stuff.

There are quite a few informed posters here with decent insight...and most people, sportswriters included, have no idea what BB is thinking on any subject so save your hard earned $$$ and you'll be ahead of the game by following info posted here on Patsfans.....JMHO

Looking for a decent source of Pats articles... can anybody here shine some light?

It's between this and ESPN Insider...

Even if you are kidding, it's an easy way to get yourself banned from this forum....just kidding...sort of...

I would pay $10 a month to read McAdam alone never mind throwing in great stuff from guys I respect like Price, Robb & Miguel and evn to a certain extent Gulizia but Greg F Bedard will never see a dime of my money. I wouldn't urinate on that jackwagon if he were on fire.

I think its worth it, in part because journalism needs financial support in general. One of the reasons there is so much room for mediots and click-bait artists is the erosion of the economic underpinning of legit journalism. Internet advertising seems to have peaked and dropped as a sustainable support mechanism for journalism, as well. If you aren't willing to pay for good journalism, you shouldn't expect it.

I've bugged Ian a couple of times about upping his game on the economic relationship with us users of this site, for the same reason.

I'm not aware of concerns about Bedard that @QuantumMechanic and a couple others have expressed, so it hasn't factored into my decision there.
anybody who actually pays to read crap from the sports media needs their heads examined.

Between Pats fans, Patsfan sites, shows like Quick Slants and twitter I get just about enough information ... or as much info as I can digest, usually if they have something really breaking or in depth it gets discussed here anyways..

The whole thing reaks of more crass commercialism..

Crass commercialism is just another way of saying 'try to survive'. Have you noticed that the Herald effectively has no sports staff anymore? ESPN has drastically cut back on their coverage of local teams. WEEI and 98.5 are both pretty much useless at this point.

I subscribe. It's cheap and there's a lot of useful in depth analysis there and not a huge amount of ********.

Good article on there today about 1-on-1s between the O-line and D-line.

On Thursday, while most of the rest of the training camp crowd “oohed” and “aahed” at Cordarrelle Patterson making a one-handed grab over Jason McCourty, the linemen were going through their paces on the other field. There were two hellacious battles between defensive end Deatrich Wise and left tackle Trent Brown that appeared (in our experience) to end both in a draw. Brown’s performance Thursday against the rapidly ascending Wise is simply another chapter in the growing legend of New England’s new left tackle.

Play that out to its conclusion and you destroy democracy, and Patsfans.com.

(Also, read quality media a little more and you'll know it is "their" r/t "there" and that anybody who reads only has a single head.)

The writers are all beat guys ...
One may disagree with their opinions but the articles have some meat on the bone.
I got it to read all local sports ... really did not need it for the Patriots ... this forum is better.

There is nothing they write I need to pay for. I follow the local teams very closely. And I don't have to pay to do so. Paying for the bsj is like flushing money down the toilet.

I wish patsfans would flag pay articles in the newsfeed. At least once a week I click on a bsj headline only to be disappointed that I can't actually read the article without a subscription, and I have no intention of signing up.

As many people complain about the Herald its still the only paper left that is free.

My question about BSJ is how much daily Pats content do they provide and how big of a football writing staff do they have?

With Reiss, Redzone, Ringer, MMQB, FIMA and Pats Fan to read for free its hard for this frugal Scotsman to justify a 3 year deal while living with the anxiety that BSJ goes bankrupt.

Agree that anyone for whom a 3 year subscription would cause anxiety should not buy one.

Pretty good articles and observations. I don't like Bedard when he is playing along with the F&M nonsense but that type of stuff isn't all that prominent on BSJ.

The Herald is one small step from becoming a metroweekly ad sheet. They got sold to a company who specializes in exactly that for 11 million dollars. 11 million. That's not a ringing endorsement of their future.

As for BSJ, they have Chris Price and Bedard writing all the time on the Pats, plus Miguel and other guys chipping in with various interest pieces over the season.

It's your money, but I don't begrudge them my $34 a year. That amounts to nine cents a day. Reiss is hardly allowed to write at all now, besides his Sunday thing, and if you like MMQB, well...that's your thing I guess.

I agree, Bedard falls victim to the f&m bullspit.

It’s awful nowadays, 98.5 & weei are useless and no longer listenable (maybe Zo and that is it), globe sucks and I don’t read anything there anymore, heraldmsucks other than Karen G. ESPN is no click other than Reiss.

I’ll read and watch some Curran with his gang of dudes that think they are pretty boys.

So, for that reason, I did subscribe to BSJ, I like Bedards breakdowns, you get Miguel and Price which make it worthwhile.
