Re: Bodden deal done - 5 years, $28.5M ($10M GTD) [merged]

I'm a believer in Contract Years.

That said, it's a little unfair to Bodden. Two of the non contract years he didn't play that much, starting as a UDFA. Another one was a bad scheme fit in Detroit. Two more he combined for 5 INT but in just 24 games as he had some injuries.

we will get to see now.......

regardless....the contract is not killer

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

While this whole Bodden situation is kind of funny, the faxt remains, what is so special about him?
You must have missed the beating BB took for letting a talent like Bodden walk. Lucky you

But seriously, Bodden was our best CB last year, right? And I don't see anything better out there to sign. So it is a good thing to keep him IMO.

Re: Bodden deal done - 5 years, $28.5M ($10M GTD) [merged]

True that, someone posted this Web site that shows him as the 14th best CB last year, above Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugah. ProFootballFocus.com - By Position

However, a year earlier, he was ranked 108th by this same Web site.

He was 108th playing on the worst team in NFL history and in a scheme which was completely different than the one in which he has succeeded (in Cleveland and last year in New England).

For the vast majority of his career, Bodden has been a very good (not elite) CB. In the Patriots' defensive scheme he is a great fit and he should continue to be a solid player for a few more years.

The best part of this deal is that for the first time in a long while the Pats have some continuity, depth and a fair bit of talent in their DBs. Bodden/Butler/Meriweather should all be starters for a few more years together. Hopefully Chung can join that group as well.

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

My chances of being canonized (i'm an atheist btw) are about equal to Asante's chances of making the HOF.
Not sure about the ftw part, but St Brady has a nice ring to it. You could be the patron saint of the fourth quarter comeback.

Alas, I think you have to be dead to be canonized.

How many good years do you guys think he has left?

Bodden 2.7 YAC per reception
Butler 2.6 YAC per reception

(Revis: 3.5 YAC per reception - purely for reference)

La-whatshisname announced it via twitter.
The guy who looks like Dan Snyder's chubby-cheeked nephew?

It's impossible to say.

He's only 28, so I'd speculate, at minimum and barring injury, he has about 3 or 4 years left of play at his current level.

Of course, there are always aberrations like the Tyrone Poole's, Otis Smith's, and Charles Woodson's of the world, who can maintain a high level of play into their twilight years.

Meh..

Nice signing, decent player. Glad we got him back. But text me when we sign someone who can hit the QB.

Plus, even though he only had one pic with Detroit, it was enough to lead the team. That should tell you something about their pass rush

Anyway, I have a lot of people on ignore at this time, so I don't know for sure, but I suspect the people who are pooh-poohing the signing of Bodden are the same ones who were going ballistic because he hadn't been signed yet.

Just sayin'....

Alvin Keels just tweeted that it's a four year deal, odd.

Tyrone Poole shouldn't have been mentioned He was cooked at 32. Thats the back-end of prime- not twilight IMO.

I distinctly remember Poole having a good season for us in 2003, when he was either 33 or 34 years old.

I'm hoping Bodden will hit a couple of QBs this year on corner blitzes.

But I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that BB isn't done yet in drafting/signing a front seven player who is capable of doing some serious pocket collapsing this season.

My bad, then. I was reading the years wrong on NFL.com, not realizing they stopped at 2008

I shouldn't have included him, other than to say that Bodden can probably keep it up for three more years, at least.
You were right that Poole had a great year in 2003.

Re: Bodden deal done - 5 years, $28.5M ($10M GTD) [merged]

Fair deal. We've been able to resign Wilfork and Bodden w/o overpaying, I think it's a great start to the offseason.

Let's hope we can start filling these holes now

Personally I thought he should have been a pro bowler that year. Didn't he lead the league in pass deflections?

Agreed. I start to get concerned when CBs hit 32...
