Re: Bodden deal done - 5 years, $28.5M ($10M GTD) [merged]

Personally I thought he should have been a pro bowler that year. Didn't he lead the league in pass deflections?

6 picks and 15 PDs is certainly remarkable for a guy who was pretty nondescript throughout his career.

It's only 4 years, $22M ($10M GTD) per Reiss and Keels.

Agreed. I start to get concerned when CBs hit 32...

Which makes Woodson's performance last year, as a bona fide DMVP candidate, all the more remarkable.

That guy has certainly aged well.

So 5.5 per and he'll be 32 at the end of the contract.

Win-win, it seems.

Gotta hand it to the Pats on this one. They stayed cool and got a good deal IMO. Still shocked that Bodden didn't get more up-front dough.

True that, someone posted this Web site that shows him as the 14th best CB last year, above Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugah. ProFootballFocus.com - By Position

However, a year earlier, he was ranked 108th by this same Web site.

Ever wonder what Tom Brady would play like in a Detroit Lions uniform?

......and Rappaport is still watching 30 Rock reruns.

4.5 million a year for a realy good #2 corner is a great deal for the pats.

Now, if we can only get that No. 1 corner.

lets hope butler is that guy. and if the pats get a real pass rush in this draft both bodden, and butler should be pretty good.

Hadn't he left bronco camp planning to retire a couple years prior?

AWESOME!. Quality signing and even for little guaranteed money. If Bodden good for just 2 years than that 10 mill guaranteed / 2 = 5 mill a year for a starting corner which is quite reasonalbe. Any quality years after that are a bonus and he can be cut at any time after those 2 initial years - and Pats have gotten their moneys worth.

I could not stand the thought of another Fernando Bryant or D. Starks or clone (or did I mean clown) starting for NEP in 2010. Back end is fine, now can concentrate on upgrading front 7 and a few skill players on offense. Great move.

Just think of the great FA 'draft' we just had. NEP drafted in FA the 2nd rated CB (Bodden) for alot less than the 1st ranked CB; we drafted one of the top 3 NT's - not cheaply but he was overdue and rewarding a hard working team captain spreads good karma through the locker room; drafted a decent starting right guard, also 'drafted' a 10 sack rusher who played in a tough conference. What a great FA draft this is becoming!

P.S. These FA re-signings also sends some good messages to our restricted FA's that when their time is up . the NEP might even 'pony up' for them.

I like our Killer Bees starting secondary: Butler, Bodden, Brandon and Brandon.

Now, if we can only get that No. 1 corner.

Remember we did win a Super Bowl with Randall Gay and Asante Samuel (before he was consistent) as our starting corners...because our front 7 was dominant. I want at least 2 of our first 4 picks to go to the front 7, and I'd be very happy with 3 of them going there.

I am delighted.
Good deal for the Patriots.
However, it allows the Pats to really focus on young front-seven defense in the draft. They will have to work hard to avoid the 3-4 DE's and OLB's in this draft. With Wilfork and Bodden re-signed, a couple critical roles are filled. Now the Pats have the flexibility to target a DE and OLB, with hopefully a young receiver as well.

Re: ******Bodden Signed by Pats!! *******

Great news! Step 3 in the right direction. Just like we all though it'd be, fix up our own FA then bring in the new help. I like what i see so far. 3 big resignings all on defense. all great moves!

Those are pretty much the 3 MUST adds within those 4 picks. Leaving us with 1 to go to a: tight end, running back, inside backer, punt..(just kidding), interior offensive lineman, or another outside backer (my preference...I want a strongside and weakside, enabling us to eventually putting TBC as a "super sub")
