Bills FA CB Stephon Gilmore signs 5-year deal w/New England

Interesting day thus far but is anyone here worry about our linebacker situation?

The Titans are apparently scoffing at having to offer 10-13 million for him so there's some hope that Hightower's market isn't too high.

Gilmore is on his way to NE. Butler's future is in doubt, if you can get Cooks for Butler straight up then DO IT. Pull the trigger.

Cooks/Gilmore > Long term Butler contract.

Still a sad thought.
Not sure how that's even a thing, he isn't on the team (sign and trade?). Terrible deal for us, a great corner is far harder to get than a good wide out. We've put up the #1 offense in the league for years without paying for a big time wide out.

Yeah he will bring it up in every thread. Just think this.

A few CB scenarios

- Ryan gone, Butler signs with another team and we get a 1st rounder we use to draft a CB that we control for 5 years. We ride with Gilmore, Rowe, Cyrus Jones and rookie, not bad.

- BB and Butler are in good spirits about paying him next year and realizing he has no leverage. No holdout, he plays this year for 3.9 Mi which is already a salary bump and cash in next year here or elsewhere. We ride with Gilmore, Butler, Rowe, CJ and may draft a CB in day 2.

- Ryan realizes he is going to get exposed if gets a #1 CB job in a sorry ass franchise and decides to stay here where he knows the coaching staff is smart. Gets 8/9 Mi a year instead of a bit more elsewhere and keeps winning. Either that or he realizes the market is not so strong for him. Can still hit the free agency in a few years. Butler is gone signing with other team or traded with the Saints. We ride with Gilmore, Ryan, Rowe and CJ.

- Ryan gone, Butler extended or the Pats match the offer. Very unlikely.

- No scenario where Ryan and Butler stays long term.

Why not? It is a passing league, often playing in nickel. Having two corners is pretty much necessary.

Because it means two corners taking up almost 20% of your cap allotment.

Proactive BB at his best:

1) NE faces numerous quality QBs in 2017 unlike the garbage heap in 2016.
Brees, Carr, Newton, Winston, Ryan, Smith, Big Ben, Rivers

2) Pass rush assistance....who knows what kind of pass rush NE will assemble at this point

3) 2018 Butler protection if Malcolm bolts

Defense wins championships (unless you have Tom fecking Brady at QB, and even then he needs help).

I'm not trading Butler.

I would pass on that.

People are acting like Cooks is prime Randy Moss. We should let Ryan go and keep Butler/Gilmore as the best duo in the league.
Apples and oranges comparison. Cooks is a small but explosive WR. You know, the type that seems to thrive in our offense.

Still think Ryan is gone. He will get more than 10m from another team. Cyrus is the eventual replacement for Ryan as inside corner.

UDFA Jonathan Jones looked much better in the rotation and I see Big things for him going foward. Lets see what Cyrus Jones shows in year Two before we anoint him.

From a financial point of view I like it. I am just not convinced about Gilmore but to be fair I have almost no exposure to him. Gotta trust BB on that one.

This seems to be more about Cooks than Gilmore. Also, considering there's been talk about Butler's dissatisfaction, it probably only meant Butler for one more year. Gilmore/Cooks offer long-term value.

The Titans are apparently scoffing at having to offer 10-13 million for him so there's some hope that Hightower's market isn't too high.

Like some of us were saying, Pats usually nail the market on their guys. But SOME people on here really thought he was gonna get $17-18m per

"Against the Pats"..... which means against Tom Brady. Think about it.
true but there a handful that gives TB trouble and you pay them ridiculous money, not sure if gilmore is worth it but at this point .. in BB we trust
still will hurt to see butler go

The problem with bringing in Cooks, imho, is that it will hamper the growth of Mitchell. Mitchell is a guy who had, arguably, the best season any rookie WR has had since Deion Branch.. And I expect him to be the starter opposite Edelman. You bring in Cooks, and now you have a situation where you put Mitchell on the bench more often than not since the Pats run more 2TE sets than 3WR sets unless they are short TEs..

Butler's going to get paid, and deservedly so, but probably not from NE. If they can get Cooks now I say go for it.

I'll root for Butler until the day I die, but better a year too early than a year too late.

This sucks to be honest with butler it shows you that this game's all about the business side. I will be forever grateful for his play here. The guy was nothing but a team player. I hope he gets paid
