Because 2008 was the worst season in the last 25 years and not because of TB's injury. The teams were beyond bad.

In the AFC, the Titans were horrible despite their 13-3 record. Arizona joined both NY Giants teams as the worst teams to come out of the NFC in the last 20 years. However, the 2008 Giants were tearing through their schedule until Burress got injured and that was a massive loss. I do think the Giants beat the Pats had they both been healthy and made the Super Bowl.

Pats with Brady easily go 13-3 and maybe get HFA. Would've been the difference in Indy and would've easily beaten the Steelers where they have lost at Gillette EVERY TIME when Brady plays.

In the NFC, two 9 win teams battle it out for the AFCCG. Pathetic. The NFC needed a guy on the Giants (Burress) to shoot himself in the leg to have a chance.

Pats easily beat the Cardinals if they met in the Super Bowl.

Not with that defense. The 2 AFC Championship teams outscored the Pats something like 70-23. Gave up 66 points to the Dolphins. Gave up 34 to the Jets in a loss. That wasn’t really on Cassel. The downgrade in QB hurt but the defense regressed big time from 07 to 08 and would be the reason why they don’t sniff the SB that year.

We know Brady can play as great as any QB has ever played and a lot of times it’s not good enough by itself. See LII.

They managed to go 11-5 with a QB who hadn’t played since high school. Granted the schedule was somewhat soft but all the more reason the reigning league MVP probably would be worth a few more wins putting them in position for a top seed. They were far from a lock but to dismiss their chances with a healthy Brady is laughable.

See post above. Defense was lousy even with that schedule. They probably beat the Colts with Brady (Cassel blunder lost that game) and get in but I doubt they would go much further.
