They stuck him with Brock they should be kissing Bills feet right now. Two division wins with no qb, even in the afc south, is pretty damn impressive.
The off-season reports sure sounded like BOB was the one who pushed for Brock in the first place.
What made Bill O'Brien fall for Brock Osweiler?
And I liked BOB when he was here, but I think he's really done a poor job handling the QB situation. He hasn't had a good QB, but the ones he's had, he has handled poorly.
In 2014, BOB had Ryan Fitzpatrick as a starting QB. He signed a 2-year, $7.25M deal, and he would go on to have perhaps his finest season, finishing with a 95.3 RAT, but Mallett was behind him and I'm sure BOB wanted him to play. So they traded Fitzpatrick to the Jets for a late pick, where Fitzpatrick had another solid year with an 88.0 RAT. Meanwhile, Mallett and Hoyer fought it out for the starting job in 2015, with Hoyer winning, only to be replaced in the first game.
Hoyer was decent in 2014 as a starting QB in Cleveland, and got out to a good start going 6-3 with a 90.4 RAT over the first 9 games. But the pressure of Manziel Mania wore on him and as the season wore on, his play got worse while he constantly looked over his shoulder.
BOB signed him afterwards to a 2-year, $10.5M deal, he won the competition for starting QB. After Mallett stunk up the joint, Hoyer played really well for a stretch before fading late in the season, then having one of the most horrific, awful playoff games ever televised.
But for most of the season, Hoyer was a solid QB, and then BOB ran him out of town. Still, Hoyer would put up great numbers in Chicago in 2016, while the $72M man they got to replace him never came anywhere close to matching his production.
None of those QBs are good, and none are worth fighting to keep. But the QB situation went from good to okay to awful under BOB's watch, with his guys that he picked. He was screwing up the QBs long before Brock/Savage came up.
