Oh no doubt about that take, I can't argue that. At the same time, I hold PFT in the same light... if I remember right, they once reported Terry Bradshaw had been killed in a car wreck and have had various other shining journalism moments like that hehe. They're definitely in a completely different universe than the CNN's of the world.

But if we're going to take everything we've heard so far at face value, her claims and her story about him leading her into his hotel room and raping her and then asking about the cameras, we might as well hold the follow up news about her mental health and those around her questioning it in the same light.

That's the thing, though: when your sources are PFT and TMZ, you can't take anything at face value. Even if their info is reliable in the first place, which is a huge if, both are prone to spin it as sensationally as possible. That's why I'm more or less sitting this one out until some real information from credible sources comes out (and even then, I'll probably continue to sit this one out since I just don't really care).

Moral arguments regarding celebrities and public figures are one of the more ridiculous things that we engage in, between our strange insistence on believing that they're all good people to begin with, to our strange desire to tear them down and sensationalize their downfall when it turns out that they're not as angelic as we decided to assume they were. If Roethlisberger did it, he should go to jail, and if the woman is making this stuff up to try to extort him, she should go to jail. Either way, participating in the spectacle just ensures that the vultures get what they want.

This isn't Men in Black where the tabloids have the best ivestigative reporters on earth. This is reality where TMZ has credibility issues. BTW, TMZ did NOT break the Michael Jackson story. They picked it up from the local LA CBS affiliate.

TMZ did break Jackson's death, by reporting it before he was even pronounced dead (apparently one of their informants works at UCLA medical center...). In fact, if you want to raise doubts as to TMZ's credibility, that's a good case in point: he was reported dead 6 minutes before he was pronounced dead, which shows you how strongly they feel about confirming the story. No, that six minute jump was more important to them than maintaining their credibility.

The reason why it wasn't credited by most other news sources is that they didn't consider TMZ credible enough to cite, so they waited for other local institutions to catch on so that they could have a valid source.

I don't think it has anything to do with Steeler fans.

But my guess is that it does have everything to do with Roethlisberger appearing on a reality show that will be aired on ABC - a network, like ESPN, that is owned by Disney.


2007 proved that ESPN is not shy about reporting on rumors and blurring the line between speculation and facts, so I'm not buying the notion that they are taking the high road in this matter for one second.

I was at work today watching ESPN and I was wondering when the hell they were going to mention this story. They never did. Funny. I know they're usually really slow reporting news, but this is for different reasons all together obviously.
