Big Ben accused of sexual assault

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

Having skimmed the complaint and some other reading

1. calling this suit against Ben R. for rape is a gross oversimplification. He is not the primary target. Which makes the likelihood that it is someone trying to shake him down highly unlikely.

2. to gather the evidence necessary to persue the complaint would require quite a bit of time, probably with the defendant being wired and talking to the plaintiff to have evidence of a cover up. this could not be done quickly and woud explain why the suit came out late.

3. the plaintiffs atty does not want to try it in the media. Very atypical for a shakedown.

4. the plaintiffs atty is a reputable law firm. Good attys don't take bad cases/shake downs. Inexperienced desperate attys take bad cases. The atty in the shakedown of Moss was out of law school only two years and working solo.

I am thinking there probably is something here.
Things to consider for sure.

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

Going to be hard for ESPN to stay away from this one now that the Commissioner is on record saying the league is looking into it. I'd imagine he's almost as concerned about her allegations regarding Ben's potential relationship with the Harrah's management. For a league players even placing themselves in situations where they may end up beholden to gambling interests is not smart conduct. Not that anyone has ever accused Ben of being particularly smart...

You know, this is why I always appreciated Bridget back in the day. Kept Tommy out of harms way, so to speak, through two superbowl runs, while he learned to navigate his growing celebrity status.

Given the scope of the allegations here about a cover up, that read like a shabby espionage triller, it's only going to take one source backing her up or one item she's contending about the things Harrah's security staff did to her to be verified, to blow the lid off this one.

I also read somewhere last night that Ben is now admitting to a consentual encounter with her...

Comcast Sports Net is now running an AP story on the case.

It wouldn't entirely disappoint me to see this wreck the Steelers' season.

Good point. I don't pretend to have any knowledge of (or opinions on) the facts of the case, but what is alleged is that executives of a casino with a major sports betting operation orchestrated the coverup of criminal activity by an NFL quarterback. That's the sort of news that can spoil a commissioner's breakfast for sure.

Yeah, but then when we beat them all the Steelers' toadies will say "That's only because of the distractions."

Who cares? Look at all the distractions the Patriots have overcome the last few years. Overcoming off-field distractions is part of being a champion.

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

I'm not saying it's a legit excuse, I'm just saying Squealers fans will use it as one. ;)

Who cares, glad to see the focus on them for a change.. see how well they handle this mess :D:D:D

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

Big Ben should counter-sue for defamation if he's sure the charges are false.

Yeah, like Riger did, only discovery is a biatch...:D

You know, back in the day the Krafts arranged for Drew's young college sweetheart to come to Boston lest their romance get off track... Protect your assets. The Rooney's should have put a monogomous relationships clause in that new contract alone side the helmut clause...;)

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

The article raises his motorcycle accident:confused: So if he's found guilty the defense could reach for brain damage or the like.

If it's NOT true then she's doing an extreme disservice to the women who are the real victims; cases of abuse in the NFL have been documented in the past, real cases, but every fake golddigger type case that comes to light simply serves to make it that much more difficult for the real victims to garner any credibility.

Either way these suits are becoming more and more commonplace, I hope the money-grubbers knock it off so that issues like this gets the attention they deserve.

Football's a violent, aggressive, and highly competative sport, not every player's able to smoothly and easily transition from one persona to another. Many can, but not all.

Unless I am mistaken, there is no guilt or innocence in a Civil trial. There is only finding in favor of the plaintiff or in favor of the defendant.

The fact that Harrah's refused multiple requests to release the security video to the plaintiff's attorney is not going to bode well for them. If they have nothing to hide, then they should have been more than happy to release the videos.

Also, if they can prove that the security manager entered her house when it was known she wasn't there, then he's toast as well. He'd have no reason to do so.

I also hadn't thought about the gambling connection that you mention. Things aren't looking good for Ben, regardless of what happens.

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

Florio with his lawyers hat on has an interesting piece up on TSN regarding why the civil case was filed now and what the course of events from here on out may entail:

Final answer in Roethlisberger case could be months away - Mike Florio - NFL - Sporting News

The civil case could not be filed in Nevada unless Ben was in that state to be served. Otherwise her only option was to file in Pittsburgh, where a jury trial would be an exercise in futility.

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

So ESPN will run a gossip piece ripped from the Herald trying to put Tom Brady in a bad light b/c he had an expensive planter stolen from him...

But they won't run this story on Big Ben. What a f**king joke!!!

Yeah, the NFLPA would love that one.

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

In a related note, I went to a Steeler fan forum, curious to see what their reaction was to this story. Expecting to probably find a lot of "Ben's innocent, she's a gold digger" comments, instead most of the talk quickly turned to the Pats.

How the NFL's personal conduct might apply to Ben - Steelers Fever Forums

I don't know what to think, other than "can you say "obsessed"?

Re: OT: Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault

this sounds like alot of BS

i hope he doesn't pay her one dime

crazy *****es lol

Your response does not surprise me one bit. It's not above the general caliber of your posts either.

hahahaha, wow, what a bunch of freaks. It must suck to have such an inferiority complex.

Even the mod came up with this gem:

Snaggletooth is probably a Cheats* fan (though she supposedly hails from Canada) who believes in her distorted and demented mind that getting Ben out of the way via suspension paves the way for the Pats* in the AFC.

Which seems to presuppose that the Pats are at all worried about Roethlisberger and the Steelers in the playoffs

I knew there was going to be something posted from Steelers fans trying to put the blame on the Patriots. Hilarious. Pathetic, but hilarious.

They did worse than that. After the NYT outed Matt Walsh, they chose to run a story they didn't feel was worthy to print before they got scooped because Walsh's claims were not verified in any way, but felt fine with running it afterwards. That story was the story that prompted Tomase to run his BS story.

Here is what Mike Fish wrote about Matt Walsh:

Despite suggestions that he could be a player in expanding the Spygate probe, Walsh repeatedly has refused to provide ESPN.com with any evidence of wrongdoing by the Patriots. He also has refused to confirm that he has tapes in his possession.

Walsh said he is fearful of possible legal action against him by either the league or Patriots if he details what he knows. He refused to provide evidence of potential wrongdoing unless ESPN agreed to pay his legal fees related to his involvement in the story, as well as an indemnification agreement that would cover any damages found against him in court. ESPN denied his requests.

Former Patriots video assistant hints at team's spying history - NFL - ESPN

So they ran a story of Walsh shooting his mouth off without any verification whether what he said was true or not. But ESPN did a good job promoting that Walsh had very damaging evidence.
