Tackle/PTP Thread.

I think it's safe to say tackle is right up there in terms of priorities. Also one of the strongest positions in this class behind Rush/Edge and maybe in front of DB.

Neal is probably going to be the first tackle taken bc he's such a freak with potential through the roof but this is a decent looking group after him.

Rhyan has a track and field background with foot firing feet at times. Quick, clean feet in pass pro and in the run game. NFL grip strength. I think he's a bit too front loaded at times. Plays a little too fast at times but man he puts together some nice reps. Starts with his feet but man his lower half/core strength is legit. He can run you over or mirror on the edge.

I think Kinnard is a PTP for sure. RT but we'll see. Bully ball big boy in the run game at 6'5 340. Powerful movements / plays with hip first. Wants to body defenders in to the ground. Inconsistent feet and hand/strike placement. Both good when handling edge pressure but inconsistent on the move.

Ive always viewed drafting o-lineman as Boring, not after what ive seen this so far this season.

I get excited about those picks bc it helps bring stability, effects so many other positions and their value. The league is full of defensive freaks even if they're not household names. You need those power pigs. Plus they sacrifice a tremendous deal in terms of body type and physique. These dudes go through some transformations lol

Was it kinnard or kirkland who got beaten by hutchinson several times? Need to Look it up again. Two names i thought would be on the List are kenyon green and L. Smith from virginia T i believe.

Edit: i just saw this is the OT Position. I agree with putting them into the IOL Thread

It looks like a big sized T/G class when i see the Numbers

I think drafting in the trenches is an exciting thing for the Season. Happy to dominate the LOS with a bulldozer

No more drafting fat guards in round 1 over elite playmakers

I get excited over d-lineman and linebackers, i'm old school (cause im old) and believe defense wins championships.

I agree, but i still have gotten more psyched over a draft such as 2012 with C Jones and Hightower vs Wynn and Micheal in 2018. Although i was intrigued by the drafting of Micheal.

One of the best run blockers in the country. Explosive, nasty player that can reach 3T, hit smaller DB's and escort ball carriers down the down field. Versatile and effective.

I do like Ekwonu, just a little bit to clean up. I think he's a day one starter at guard but will take some coaching to reach the same level at tackle. Mainly I'm concerned about his over reliance on his natural strength and explosiveness. It's certainly impressive, but he's a bit more of a project than I'd like in the first round. But that's just my tendency to prefer polished OL in the first round. With that said, he's very athletic and trim at 6'4" 325. Shorter guys typically have trouble carrying that much weight. He has lower set hips and short legs, which is why I think he's ultimately an IOL. But the versatility is there.

Agreed I think he could be plug & play top tier G. Teams go crazy over the value of tackles, which I understand but either way I love the player. He might be the best run blocking OL'm in the country.

I'm actually liking this T class. Not as top heavy in terms of talent but good depth imo.

This draft is loaded with right tackle prospects:

1.) Neal of alabama
2.) kinnard of kentucky
3.) ekwonu of nc state
4.) penning of n iowa
5.) faalale of Minnesota

Faalale has improved so much but esp as a run blocker. Effortlessly moves guys well out of the picture with ease. So smooth for someone that size. I think Nike makes those jerseys?? W/e it is made their biggest size ever for him.

Yea we should be able to walk away with a pair of tackles in this draft if we want depending on how the OL shapes up.

The question for me here is whether they have the coaching they need to develop anyone they (hopefully) draft next spring. I don’t come close to having any expertise in this area but to me when you have 3 guys (Wynn, Andrews, and Mason) playing so poorly in positions they’ve started in for more than 3 years, that tells me it’s more coaching than talent. So if for example they took on a project like Faalele, the track record with this OL coach wouldn’t give me a lot of confidence.

With that said, I’m all for using as much capital as possible on the OL, so long as they also get a “partner” for Barmore and upgrades over Bentley and Hightower.

I love Faalele. I'm always a bit skeptical of gigantic dudes but he's almost superhuman.

Coming from a rugby background in Australia, faalala has to have some catching ability.

can you imagine if bb used him as a sixth offensive lineman/eligible tight end?

as a goal line option, he would be an incredible weapon as either a blocker or if he can, as a receiver.
