Colts had won the last 3 meetings h2h going into the game and Pats were going for the undefeated season and were losing 20-10 with 10 minutes left and came back to win 24-20.
Thanks! Now I do remember the 70 attempts. Unreal.OT Win - may have been the first OT win in franchise history (we got off to a pretty bad start, if you'll recall).
Minnesota Vikings at New England Patriots - November 13th, 1994 | Pro-Football-Reference.com
Bledsoe 45-70 436 and 3 TDs. May have been his best game as a pro. 70 attempts is still an NFL record, I believe.
Minnesota team was no joke either - Warren Moon/Terry Allen/Cris Carter - John Randle/Henry Thomas/Jack Del Rio
It was a 'we belong' win, to be sure.
@Miami was bigger than all thoseI never was into the whole media hype over Colts/Pats. Never was a rivalry imo, between 05 & 09 it was tough because the Colts defense improved but other than that it really wasn't a contest. Not particularly impressed with a win over a dome team, especially in the cold/snow.
2003 is still my favourite year in memory, and I've got a few from that year:
- Week 6 win against the Giants as part of a triple defeat of NJ
- Week 9 rare win in Denver going into the bye week
- Week 11 shutout of Dallas coming off the by week - Great defensive showing
- Week 17 exact 31-0 revenge against the Bills - 3rd shutout of the year, all 3 after the bye
That Patriots team was a title contenderHave to start with this one, VERY satisfying at the time: Chicago Bears at New England Patriots - October 30th, 1988 | Pro-Football-Reference.com "The Patriots (4-5), who lost their last meeting with the Bears, 46-10, in Super Bowl XX, became the first team in six games to score more than nine points against Chicago. The Bears (7-2), who entered the game as the NFL's best defensive team, had a winning streak stopped at five."
It was a solid thrashing, put McMahon out for a month and ran the ball 50+ times against the great Bears defense.
1976 @ Pittsburgh was fun, but later that season @ Baltimore in Memorial Stadium, AFCE showdownMan, I love this thread! Brings back so many great memories!
I was at that game with my (fairly new) husband, his college friend and his fiance, who was NOT a football fan (she just went to make her fiance happy). The Pats were down 20-0 to the Vikings, either at the half or in the 3rd, and she was freezing and wanted to leave. We kept saying "just one more drive. If the Pats don't score, we'll leave." And of course, Drew started throwing, and throwing, and throwing, and the Pats kept scoring, and scoring, and scoring. Then it went into OT, and we couldn't leave then, am I right?! So we stayed until the end of an incredible come back and they broke up shortly thereafter (whoops!). Hubs and I are still together of course, with the Pats always part of the glue!I'm embarrassed that I don't remember that one. Probably because I was living in DC and was able to see one Pats game a year at best usually.
Great thread even without talking about Hope St in Providence!!
Brady also got his first career reception in that game.2001 2nd game vs. Miami.
Don't know if I've ever whooped or hollered as much at my tv at any other reg. season game.
That game, more than any other reg. season game, defined the 2001 Patriots.
It was smashmouth football. And after watching that game, I knew the Patriots were the best team in the NFL and had a good shot at winning the SB.
Think Brady threw less than 20 passes, but the Patriots ran it like 45-50 times for like 200 yards.
that 96 final reg game which others have mentioned vs the Giants.
Troy Brown looked so much like Neo from the Matrix the way he caught that 4th down pass. One of the sickest plays I’ve ever witnessed by a Patriot player.
1976 Patriots would kick the crap out of the 1985 BearsMan, I love this thread! Brings back so many great memories!
OK but you weren't born before 1986 were you1994 - 20 point comeback win against Vikings- at the time as a Pats fan something like that had never happened and it made a big impression. As if there is the possibility of something special with this team/QB...
Anyone remember the Pats opener against the Bill's in 2009? It was Bradys return after his 2008 injury. He threw 2 TDs with barely over a minute left in the game to win 25-24.
Courtesy of Leodis McKelvin fumbling a kickoff back to NE.
I was born in the 60's but I dont remember as big a comeback prior to that. It was the comeback for me rather than just a dominant QB performance which had certainly happened with Grogan at timesOK but you weren't born before 1986 were you
