The way I got it was that it was a 3 way deal with Cutler going to Tampa, Cassel going to Denver and the Tampa #1 going to New England.
I concur..

even then cutler and cassel a straights swap for denver ..right ? so cutler is the same value as cassel for them and they would swap him without asking for more? and tampa gets cutler for their #1 .it wouldve been a steal for tampa and the pats but a bad deal for denver IMO as good as cassel is.
McDaniels likes Cassel. Cutler is a Prima Donna who takes the gas pipe under pressure.
Here, read this and I think you'll see what I mean about Cutler:
Trade talk rattles Cutler - The Denver Post
On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson..they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.
- Ron Borges
perfect quote to sum up the last day of Chicken Littling going on here
sure but the value cutler in the so called market is a lot more than cassel .Why would denver trade cutler for cassel straight up ? they would probablywant a 2nd or 3rd rounder along with cassel to give up cutler. whether cutler gets rattled or not , at least in my opinion he has a lot more value than just straight up trade with cassel. mcdaniels woudlve gotten killed if he did this even though he liked cassel and wanted him there.not to mention , to give a new contract to cassel when they have probably equal or better QB in cutler already under contract.
iam not saying tampa didnt do this ,but it wouldve been a bad deal for deal denver IMO
You can bet that the Belichick hating media is polishing up their articles on how Pioli schooled Belichick on todays trade.
I can only imagine the articles we are going to be seeing this week from
Ron Borges, Michael Felger, Tom Curran, and Tony Massarotti.
Will they ever learn?
The media questioned Belichick's decision to draft Seymour instead of
David Terrell. Seymour became an all pro & David Terrell is one of the biggest
top 10 busts in NFL history.
The media questioned Belichick's decision to stick with Brady and trade
Bledsoe after the 2001 season. Brady has won 2 more rings since then and
Bledsoe's got intercepted by the King in a BurgerKing commercial.
The media questioned Belichick's decision to cut Lawyor Milloy the week
before the 2003 season started. When we lost the season opener 31-0 to Bledsoe,
Milloy and the Buffalo Bills the media was calling for Belichicks head.
How did that season turn out?
When Brady got hurt in the opener of the 2008 season, the media was calling for
the Patriots to go out and get a Brad Johnson, or a Daunte Culpepper
veteran. They said that Cassel should have been cut in preseason.
Belichick said that Matt Cassel was his quarterback after a shaky game
early in the season. Cassel continued to develop and got us a high draft pick.
Let's wait to see how Cassel does in KC & what we get with the #34 pick.
If that pick turns out to be an ALL PRO and Cassel struggles in KC, Belichick
will have the last laugh on the media as usual.
once belichik has won another sb with the pieces he's set to acquire via these draft picks whether it's by trading them for names, or drafting new ones, and once cassell flops in KC and their fans run pioli back into a NE job, the media may finally realize how much of a genius NE and the pats system is, but i doubt it, the media's ******ed
yet every single time there's an issue with the team, all these guys bring out "Michael Smith!!!!!", "Tom Curran!!!!!", "Ron Borges!!!!!" and "John Tomase!!!!" like these people somehow have a much more valued perspective on the Patriots than THEIR HEAD COACH. It's nutty...it really is.
Well, if the reports are true, McDaniels disagrees with you.
1st, that doesn't matter.. Time and money was vested into Cassel.. But to be honest and to answer your question.. Hell no.. I actually thought we were keeping 4 on the roster..
actually the only people who think NE could have gotten more, are the ******ed media and some ******ed fansCassel's trade value and his future play are NOT identical. If Cassel becomes the greatest quarterback in history, he'll still have been traded for a 2nd round pick when the Patriots could have gotten more. If he sucks so much that he's cut in training camp, he'll still have been traded for a 2nd round pick when the Patriots could have gotten more. The Patriots gave up the #1 quarterback on the free agent market and a linebacker who is one year removed from being a first team All Pro, and they gave them both up for a 2nd round pick. Belichick gave Pioli a "buddy rate" on the trade. I have no problem with that. However, I do have a problem with people turning it into something it's not, and it's not Belichick pulling a rabbit out of his ass to the amazement of everyone.
actually the only people who think NE could have gotten more, are the ******ed media and some ******ed fans
they got what they got, because no one else WOULD give them more
that's a fact....
