Belichick ripped team today - if he did that on this site, he would be called whiner

Re: Belichick ripped team today - if he did that on this site, he would be called whi

Belichick showed the team many clips of various players missing assignments and making errors. He ripped them for 45 minutes - saying they need to improve. Brady said "Coach gave it to us pretty good today," "We've made plenty of mistakes. Especially the last month of football, I don't think it's been our best."

If someone on this board made all those comments, the Kool-aid police would rip them a new one and call them a whiner.
Ha ha. That is too funny. You say, "BB said this so it must be true," and then claim not to be a Kool-Aid drinker.

Anyway, no one here ever said the Pats were perfect, no one ever said the Pats don't make mistakes.

It is the incessant whiners, weeping and wailing that the Pats are in big trouble because an opposing team doesn't roll over and die, or a (HORROR!) Patriot misses a tackle.

Players miss tackles. Everyone acknowledges that. The difference is whether you see a missed tackle as the sign of impending doom, or a missed tackle, something to be worked on but not panic over.

But congratulations. It is a step forward for you to quote BB as the ultimate authority, the guy who knows the score, and that Pats fans should listen to him. I agree 100%, and point out that BB never said Maroney is made of glass, and that BB signed Chad Brown because he thought Brown could help the team, etc etc. From now on I will expect you internegators to quote BB faithfully.

Good thread. I was disgusted in our performance against the Jets.

I know it's time consuming, but you might want to try reading through threads before you post in them...LOL

With that said, the idead that any fan's criticism is comparable to Belichick's or a professional football player is ridiculous. You are talking about a head coach (arguably the smartest in the NFL) providing constructive criticism to his team based on his NFL experience. The fact that team members are self-critical is also understandable (and desirable) as it indicates a desire to improve performance.

The word 'fan' is derived from 'fanatics', so there is some merit to the kool-aid notion in that you ardently support your team. With that said, I suspect most intelligent posters love a good debate on the players and game. It is not, however, "chugging the kool-aid" to call ridiculous posts lacking any basis in logic and argument ridiculous. In the end, the team is 14-0 so that buys some deference to the organization in its decisions, and as a fan I support my team - tearing the Pats down regularly is for the generally moronic media (there are some exceptions) and those in the organization that can use the criticism to improve the play.

The OP's point isn't a comparison of fans to Belichick but rather to show that Belichick didn't excuse the team's (primarily offense's) terrible performance by claiming "it's the weather" or "no other team on the East Coast threw for more than 200 yards", like the homers on this board did. Belichick isn't a homer and thus understands that Brady's crappy play will not lead to a win against the better teams the Patriots will face in the playoffs.

Fans who are interested in seeing their team improve/win the ultimate prize will also, like players, be critical of bad play. Homers lack this ability, only look at the surface (i.e. the win) and ignore the substance (i.e the poor plays that will guarantee a loss if not fixed).

Yes, we do love a good debate on players and the game. Unfortunately, since most of the posters on this board are immature homers who pitch anger fits when confronted with opinions they don't like/can't refute, those debates do not exist. The posters on KFFL are more inclined to be objective but lack the activity of this board (which, considering their more adult behaviour is to be expected).

Actually, the Jets did essentially "roll over and die" and yet the Patriots "greatest ever" offense could only generate a total of 6 points. While homers are ecstatic when the Pats barely win against teams that "roll over and die", objective fans understand that teams in the playoffs will not "roll over and die" so a 6 pt generating offense will only lead to a loss.

The Patriots didn't "miss a tackle", the Patriots missed many tackles in that game. Such a performance could be dismissed as an exception but for the fact that it isn't an exception but has now become a trend. The Pats probably have more games with many missed tackles than games without many missed tackles. Missing tackles has been a problem for the Patriots all season, and the fact that it's still a problem NOW is a valid reason for concern. Not for the homers. But for everyone else who actually understands football and thus understands that the cavalier attitude that "everyone misses tackles" is applicable only to poor defenses.

Thing is, most of the criticism spewed here is not close to what Bill castigates them for. Not to mention he does it constructively and privately and in measured tones.

You'll be devastated to know that he said the same thing I did in the game thread and later in defense of the Brady to Moss throw. He would make that decision 99 out of 100 times because that is a matchup they work to achieve - Moss one on one with a safety - and Randy has beaten that coverage matchup consistently this season.

He also stated that while it looked like there were some missed tackles, much of that was weather related, wet targets that were hard to grip and slick footing that didn't allow a defender to plant.

He also said Hanson was correct to attempt to punt after the muffed catch because there should have still been time to get the kick off if not for breakdowns in the coverage on their rusher.

And of course, unlike yourself, Bill still insists there is no other QB he would rather have...no other.

Bill can be such a homer...

Well, I wasn't devasted when I heard him talking about the game, including Brady's throw to Moss, etc. so I'm certainly not devasted by your somewhat inaccurate repetition of his points.

I don't recall Bill saying "he would make that decision 99/100", he stated that "he can't say that he would say that Brady shouldn't have done it or that it was a bad decision because it was Moss against a safety and we've been successful with that before".

As a homer, you are quite aware that Bill DOESN'T PUBLICLY CRITICIZE his players, so you do know that Bill not saying that "Brady shouldn't have thrown to Moss" is meaningless, even if you pretend otherwise because you have nothing else to support your homerism.

I do think that Bill really doesn't think it was a bad decision, otherwise I think he would have gone to his standard "we all could have done some things better". However, I also do not think that he wants Brady consistently ignoring open receivers to go to Moss. That was ONE play. It was NOT the only play in which Brady ignored open underneath receivers to try to force the ball long. If Brady had not done the latter, the Pats offense would have been far more efficient and generated more than 6 lousy points against the 27th ranked defense. Again, you homers look at one play when the problem objective fans have is with a large body of plays, not a bad play here or there.

I thought Hanson should have pulled it down and ran and I thought there was a break-down in protection. Bill agreed with me on one but not the other, which I was surprised about. Again, he seemed genuine in his assessment of Hanson's decision to try to get it off. I think it's possibly because he believed the kick might have been blocked anyway even without the fumbled handle by Hanson.

I would buy Bill's weather argument (and again, he sounded genuine when he made the claim), if it wasn't a continuation of similar poor tackling AND the Jets didn't seem to have too much difficulty tackling the Pats. However, my primary concern coming out of that game wasn't the defense but the offense's inefficiency. Nothing Bill said during his interview suggested that he thought the offense performed as well as they could.

So sorry Mo, Bill isn't a homer. Don't feel bad though, you have lots of company in the homer department on this board.

KFFL?

Brady needs to be replaced?

Pats win 20-10 on one of the worst days to play football I've ever attended in 40 years, AND they're 14-0 and THIS is a BAD thing?

I think I posted on Sunday night that posts like these would eventually appear by mid-week.Smells like "A Clockwork Green".

The truth is, we were playing better earlier in year and it is ok to say that and point out areas where we think they could use some improvement. We still love the team and recognize we are still playing as well as anyone but we also see areas that seem to have slipped a bit and it is ok to talk about it....

If you need to be explained the difference between Bill Belichick motivating his players, pointing out mistakes and areas for improvement versus the average fan just whining that we aren't winning by four TDs anymore, then seek help.

Re: Belichick ripped team today - if he did that on this site, he would be called whi

I understand what you're saying, but the members of this board aren't the head coach of a 14-0 football team,.

I didn't know we had to be head coach in order to call it like it is. Your response is just more avoidance. It's creative, but it's nothing but avoidance.

The truth is. What you make up in your happy-head is, at some point, not. What you are arguing is not. It's a negation of truth.

Re: Belichick ripped team today - if he did that on this site, he would be called whi

I don't think that comment is necessarily "ripping the team." It's more like being honest and recognizing your weaknesses.

The great thing about this organization and this team is that they recognize their faults and make adjustments. This is why we are successful week in and week out.

Yep.

If Brady, Moss and/or the rest of the O got chewed out for anything, I'd hazard a guess that it was execution. Throws Brady should have made, catches the WR's should have had, blocks that should have been made, etc. For example, the one busted handoff to Maroney where Brady read the blitz, but there was no communication for a block, so he just took the hit. Or the near interception throw early on that seemed to be either a complete miss or a poor throw-away.

Brady and the offense certainly do fail to execute at times and I don't think this was a game the O was particularly proud of as a whole, but if there's one thing that I would almost never question is Brady's focus, field vision or decision making. Especially not when Belichick himself says Brady made the right decision(s).

Re: Belichick ripped team today - if he did that on this site, he would be called whi

Good thread. I was disgusted in our performance against the Jets.

LOL. "Disgusted." The team didn't play all that well, but you DO realize that there were ridiculously poor conditions for this game, don't you? Sleet, rain and 30 MPH winds... Clue in.

He didn't "excuse" them, and neither did we. But he absolutely - and correctly - acknowledged those factors. You should try listening to his interviews and reading.

You should also avoid making sweeping generalizations about those of us who have some semblance of perspective about games played below the normal level of performance.

Aww, but sweep generalizations are my favorite kind of generalizations...

Exactly. The kool-aid police thinks we should be holding parades for 1st rd running backs that get 104 yards against the NY Jets of the world.

And I don't see why the fans can't serve humble pie either, when it is warranted.

I don't know...the koolaid maker was hugging his RB of the same nickname at the end of the game so maybe he thinks Maroney will yet earn his own duckboat in the next parade...

Some of you have been played by the Felger's of the local media and talking empty heads in the national media. They have convinced you that hypercritical and objective or savvy are one in the same. And you're just self absorbed enough to believe you have it all figured out while the rest of us are homeristic dolts...

There are actually gradients of play between the pro bowl and a draft bust. This dynasty was built on the backs of a lot of guys who fall within that gradient. It's just the mental midgets who succomb to the fantasy league mentality who fail to realize what real football teams win with.
