Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

We all want to be promoted, but Mayo could be regretting taking the job as he's getting exposed badly right now. In fact, it's so bad he may not ever get a positional job in the NFL if this doesn't get turned around and he's fired quickly.
Once he is fired -- and he will be -- I will be shocked if he coaches in the NFL above the linebackers coach level.

He's going to have to start back to where he was at best coaching LB's. He will have to work his way up the latter if he wants to be a DC at some point. But given the horrible reputation of the Bill coaching tree, it doesn't look good for him.

Flores is an outlier.

I will say, one thing I thought of today - if Mayo DOES somehow turn this around, doesn't that make him a pretty good coach? To take a situation this bad (granted, largely of his own doing) and turn it around into a competent successful team who is winning games would be monumental.

I don't really have a lot of hope he can do that, but if he did, I'd certainly view him in a different light.

Exactly what Flores did in Miami after a 1-7 start - although I'd take Flores over Mayo anyday...

If Maye plays well 3-7 the rest of the way shouldn't be unreasonable. That puts us back at 4-13 again. Dare I say 4-6. 1-16 might seem more likely but above is where my hopes are focused right now. 5-5 or better and I'll be insufferably encouraged all off-season.

They couldn't beat the one win Jaguars... doesn't bode well for this prediction.

Bill had four years to rebuild post Brady and Wolf gets 7 games and folks want to fire him. This is going to be a multi year project. I'd be very disappointed if they don't spend this year with it projected to be a good FA class.
Why are you turning a discussion about the failure in free agency into Belichick and how long wolf has had?
Whether he does a good or bad job is not based on belichick unless you want to say he isn’t good unless he wins 6 SBs.
How long he has had is the sample size of what he has done in this role.
Are you saying it’s ok that he ****ed up free agency because it was the only time he did it? If you are going to judge him you judge him by his work and so far it’s a disaster.
Why didn’t they spend this year? There were more than 100 players who could have made the team better. Why did we leave 40,000,000 in krafts pocket to build a team that claims waiver wire guys and makes them starters?

If he does well he does well. Creating a problem then fixing it (permanently) isn’t a disaster.
But he hasn’t given any indication he can turn it around, as evidenced by all the posters asking “tell what he has done well” and getting no response.

Absolutely, winning solves everything. If he can squeeze 5-6 wins out of this team and the team shows the fight we were looking for i don’t think any of this will be an issue. I just don’t have much faith in it happening.

At the very least i think you hafta see something similar to what the 2019 dolphins did. They were also in intentional unintentional tank situation based on their personnel moves. They Started out the season getting clobbered even worse than us, then turned it around slowly and finished rather decent all things considered at 5-11. If we don’t see similar improvement and things continue down this road we’re going we must move on.

Might be on to something here. Could it be his plan was to have the team look so beyond hope that when he squeezes a couple of wins he looks like a genius?

5-12 doesn’t equal “winning solves everything”

What 3 teams are we going to beat? We already lost to the 2 worst teams in the schedule, Miami and Jacksonville.

If that happens, then I suggest we'd be forced to conclude that there's been a lot more going on behind the scenes than we've imagined, and that there have been forces actively working against him, and then suddenly Kraft moved decisively to give him full control of the team. I don't see it because Kraft's nepotism got him there in the first place, but who knows. I just can't imagine him suddenly "getting it" and then turning things around.
