Bam Childress waived

I'd prefer that they cut Caldwell over Childress. Bam seemed to have the perfect Patriot mentality and good enough skills to produce. I just don't get it.

well you never know with Deion situation..what if we trade Deion and get a #1 WR in return?

Thats puts:
#1-the acquired player
#2-Gabriel
#3-Caldwell
#4-Troy Brown/Bam
#4-Brown/Bam

look at Cowboys situation..Owens-Glenn-Crayton...
Jaguars-Jones-Wilford-Williams-?
Packers-Who do they have but Driver + Jennings? FErguson blows

Chiefs need WR..so u never know

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Barring injury, Troy Brown will be one of the two WRs in our base set. Why would you rather have a guy out there that's been with the team a few days over the Best WR left on the team?

People view Troy as a 3rd/4th type option because of how the past few seasons have gone, but on THIS team, he's not only the most experienced player, but the most talented. (unless Deion returns).

He's a nice kid, but face it , he sux. Caldwell will do fine here as a 3/4.

Given our total and utter lack of WR depth, to me this curious move means one or all of the below:

1. BB is still so unhappy with our return game that he wants to roster a player to take up the last WR spot who can also be a (hopefully) above average return guy.

2. Chad Jackson is ready to take the field.

3. Deion Branch will actually return to the Patriots.

My guess is its probably a combo of 1 & 2.

This has been the most CONFUSING offseason ever.

One move makes less sense than the previous. I'm not passing judgement on the brain trust here, but these moves remind of dudes manipulating their FF team an hour before game time.

I dunno if all these moves will benefit or harm the finished product, I JUST DON'T GET.
it is odd, but at last the core of the team is still here and together despite losing mcginest, givens, and av. they had a good draft. we're looking at deion and the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd roster spots. keep the faith

I don't like how the WR's are stacking up for the first few weeks of the season. Childress seemed like the most reliable option after Troy Brown.

I can't believe that 2-3 years ago people were suggesting that Troy Brown would be or should be cut ( which he was) . Now he is our #1 receiver with no reliable #2, unless you like Caldwell. Blows the mind, and blows for Childress.

I can't see how this move makes us a better team going in to the season. It's going to be a while before the Bills guy can produce.

this must only mean that they expect deion back for game 1, something must be in the works.

With the Pickup of Gabriel the initial starting WRs until Branch gets back
will probably be
Caldwell, Gabriel, Brown, Jackson
the 5th WR isn't seeing much time unless an injury. (Bam or who ever)
When Branch gets back the 5th WR is cut.

By letting Bam go now rather than latter he may find a place for more
playing time for the whole season or they can get him on PS if possible.

This may mean they expect no trade for Branch to happen.

lets wait and see...we all saw Bam play but its obvious BB and the coaching staff more about the player .BB isnt that stupid to cut a player if he thought was good enough to make the team or he wouldve cut branch a while back this preseason instead of deal with this headache. We all liked bam because branch wasnt there, if he was we wouldnt be so pissed. BB is seperating the branch situation from his receiver situation now and so isnt reactively keeping bam.

I still remember, not at this board necessarily but other boards, the praise that Caldwell was getting when the Pats signed him. This guy is looking like the WR version of Duane Starks. I always figured him to be a scrub and that assessment hasn't changed. He was considered the 5th best receiving option in San Diego, and it's not as if they are running the Fun and Gun offense of the Rams. He's played in 4 NFL seasons and hasn't had more than 28 receptions. If there were any justice, and Branch and Jackson were available to line up on that field, that would stay the same, no more than 28. But he'll probably see a lot of time on the field by default. I don't consider him to be any better than our 5th best receiver, and that's not including the TE's and Kevin Faulk. As far as receiving options go, he's way down there.

Hope I'm wrong about the guy, but he hasn't impressed me.

I don't like this move at all. Childress was looking like a young Troy Brown out there. Scrapping for everything he could get and showing that same shiftiness that Brown did in his early years. Of course, i'm not saying that Bam would've become all that TB is, but geez, what is the reasoning behind this move?

You think Brady is pleased that he has to get all of these guys on the same page after camp has closed and the season is about to start? Where are the considerations for that?

I dont see much chance of Bam making it through waivers. Why this guy and not Mike Hass? Did someone else already claim him and I missed it?

wo
wo
wooooo

mike hass was cut?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

These are the stats in pre-season - Bam clearly looks to be the better player:

Against the Giants, Bam was 6 for 116 yards of which 4 for 62 yards were in the 1st half. Bam also had 2 KR for 45 yards and 2 PR for 5 yards and also 1 FUMBLE. Against the Lions Jo.Smith was 2 for 14 yards, none in the first half and 1 FUMBLE.

Against the Redskins Bam was 2 for 23 yards, none in the first half. Against the Browns Jo.Smith was 1 for 5 yards, none in the first half.

Against the Cardinals Bam was 3 for 75 yards, of which 2 for 49 yards were in the first half. Against the Bengals Jo.Smith was 1 for 15 yards, none in the first half. Jo. Smith also had 5 KR for 106 yards.

Maybe this is the FO's revenge for Brady's 'sign Branch' interview with ESPN? I'm kidding (mostly).

Caldwell is really looking like a waste of space. Bam actually gets open and doesn't drop the ball. I realize it was only preseason but Caldwell's numbers are horrible throughout his career.

Hopefully Bam makes the PS because there's a good chance we'll need him later this year.

Really hoping that this means Branch will be back shortly and that Jackson will be ready to contribute. If so Brady's receiving options are looking like this...

WR1: Deion Branch
WR2: Doug Gabriel
WR3: Troy Brown
WR4: Chad Jackson
WR5: Reche Caldwell

TE1: Ben Watson
TE2: Daniel Graham
TE3: David Thomas

Then you've got 3rd down/receiving down back Kevin Faulk, and H-back Garrett Mills.

And he hasnt played a regular season game for the Patriots. Thanks for your rapid judgement before the season actually begins. He was shaky in preseason, completely new to the Patriots, completely new to the playbook, way different. I didnt expect him to be amazing. Relax and give the guy a frigging chance in the regular season. God, I'm sick of the huge negativity towards him. Yes he hasnt looked great in preseason but you say he looks like Duane Starks. I'm sorry but the guy hasnt played a regular season game, why isnt Chad Jackson being completely ragged on? He hasnt played yet, he must suck. I've tried to hold in my frustration hearing the comments on how Caldwell already sucks because of the preseason and how Dillon will be replaced because he didnt get lots of yards in the preseason. Ellis Hobbs must've sucked because he didnt get an INT...its like the preseason means everything. Give them a freaking chance, some of you.

You're forgetting that Bam had Caldwell across from him to draw the coverage. (Okay, and Brady instead of Losman throwing the ball.)

I'd like to know what BFLOFan thinks of this.

Maybe it's karma and we had to give up Bam for Smith to get Gabriel for a fifth. Assuming Gabriel will turn out well.

Brady's going to be hoarse next week yelling at his receivers. And Watson better loosen up.

Wow it's official I am wrong about E V E R Y T H I N G.
