Absolutely positively love hunter.. will he be there at #4??? Carter is the #2 rated player in the draft after him...
I would take Carter over Hunter any day of the week and 7 times on Sunday's.

Hopefully the Patriots can sign a free agent like Ronnie Stanley or Alaric Jackson.
That would negate the need to draft an OT (Will Campbell) and then select one of the others (Travis Hunter/Mason Graham/Abdul Carter).

Right now I'm leaning towards Carter, slightly.

If the Patriots don't sign one of those two or trade for a LT, then I would prefer Campbell.

He may not be the BPA, but the team cannot continue to ignore that position.
The trenches are what this offseason and draft is all about. Will Stanley leave Baltimore? Same for Jackson? Campbell is a beast at LT as well can't go wrong there. Then you have to ask what are the teams plans with Robinson and Wallace? I voted Carter personally.. and after the superbowl I'm sure that picture became clearer to Vrabel and Cowden.

I get it. But there are 3 or 4 tackles that are about the same that you can get by the middle of the first round, easily. Burning pick 4 when you can have more capital for this year, or for going forward, seems kind of foolish.
There are three guys in the draft that are round 1 worthy imo... ymmv... Simmons (my favorite, but is rehabbing), Campbell and the other guy whatshisface... and all it takes is one pick to start a run on a position group... without a strong QB class, teams are going to start looking at filling holes...

you may just find yourself on the outside looking in when you are waiting your turn at 16...

I voted Carter myself.. the guys just a demon off the edges.. love his motor and and he plays the run well.

I think the draft drops off precipitously after Travis Hunter. I think Carter is a guy you can get in any draft in the top 15.
Your right.. as I personally feel like we should stand pat where we are at 4..

Yes, we can go wrong choosing the 10th best prospect (Cambell) at 4, especially when he will likely be a top LG in the NFL rather than a LT.
==========
We need to pick the BPA (or every close) at 4. Or we could trade down.
==================
THE CHOOSE WHAT WE NEED AND IGNORE THE REST STRATEGY (circa 2024)
We needed a WR last year. We traded down a bit (I had no problem with that). We then had choices.
1) Reach 20 pick or so early for a potential future starter at LT.
2) Draft a WR that we didn't want (some waned McConkey, some didn't).
3) Reach 20 or so picks for the top WR on our board.
4) Choose among the BPA's available. The choices was varied; there were several DT's and DB's. The "consensus" pick was probably DeJean, although several others would have been fine.
=======
Yeah, I guess DeJean might have been a SAFE, SMART, and WINNING pick.

Yes, Hunter is the best player in the draft. Arguably, then there are Ward and Carter. Then, there are maybe 5 at the next level.

It would be hard to pass on Hunter. However, id we have traded for a top WR and sign one if free agency, I could see us trading down a 2-5 spots). Trading down is getting value for Hunter. Choosing someone else at 4, except for perhaps Carter is simply wasting value.
=-===
BTW, CONSIDER
The best 3 could be chosen in the top 3: Hunter, Ward, and Carter.

This situation may be the very best for the patriots with several teams wanting a QB.

If we don't fix the OLine, nothing else matters. The Chiefs proved that

There’s almost zero chance that they have to pick between Hunter and Carter, but I really hope that they’re not having to pick between all of the others player because both of them are gone.

I don't think so. One of those 3 guys (I think there's closer to 4 or 5 that are like top-50-type tackles), will be there at 16.

When you need talent *and* positions *and* draft capital, it's hard to screw it up completely, but it's also hard to nail it.

Hmm

You fear this situation, I like it a lot,

If both Hunter and Carter are gone, then there is a QB up for bid.

Big question becomes: what do you do if you can't land one of the tackles in FA? Alaric Jackson and Ronnie Stanley look like the only two that would be worth the investment at that position. I think the tackle group is deep of developmental prospects, but it really does fall off after late round 1/early 2. We may be out of options.
I agree. Nobody is trading a LT

I like Ersery from Minnesota in the 2nd round but there's other big guys who could develop on day 3.

Top 5 pick should be reserved for a stud. Not a guy with question marks.

I agree that we should look for a OT at the bottom of the 2nd and in the 3rd. For me, this player would be our #4 OT. after the two free agents and Wallace.

I'm hoping someone wants Sanders enough but I'm prepared/expecting Hunter, Carter, and Ward going 123.

I think we should try and trade up for Hunter that's how much better I think he is then everyone else.

As of Today ... There is no more important hole to fill than the LT spot.

The answer is: The Best Left Tackle Prospect there is in the draft. Don't care who it is - Campbell/Banks/Simmons etc...
Of the 3 only Simmons is a true LT. His ? is that he's recovering from injury. If he tests well at the combine I'm all in on him though.

Here are some clips of Campbell and Banks to show why I'm out on them....

If we can't get Carter, hunter, or graham at 4.. I'd rather take Campbell.. I just see the path for us to become a contender.. past patriots team always had top 10 OLs and top 10 DLs.. even when we were giving up 400 yards passing 2011&2012.. we still were stout against the run and we could block up front. We have the perfect guy at HC that knows this better than anyone.

It's too bad that Mayo couldn't even leave us with the 1st Pick Overall, because Carter probably won't be there at #4.
Yes I think your right.. so I'm thinking maybe Graham? Or Campbell??
