Agree here, the notion that there was nobody better than the large majority of free agent stiffs Wolf did sign is pure delusion. There were dozens of free agents that would have been better than the players on our roster.
You are implying, after that debacle Thursday that no player available is better than what we trotted out there.
This team has many weaknesses.
Other than 2 WRs who did they even try to get? Other than Ridley they signed pretty much everyone they attempted to. Players didn’t come here because we didn’t make them offers. The ones we did make offers to Brissett, okorafor, leverette, Hawkins, Osborne, hooper, etc were the ones they wanted, went after, signed and suck with.
Gibson, Hooper and Brissett were smart signings.. but the large majority of free agents he signed who are worth a damn now were already here. I thought the problem with the last regime was team building?
There are a number of excuse makers for the new regime here. I suspect many who just hated the last guy and are happy with anybody else and who want to justify the firing.
I don’t care about the past and was willing to start fresh. The mistakes with this team were made in the offseason, in the team building phase. Objectivity is judging every decision on it’s own merits. This team is two tackles away from being a playoff team.
They could also have substantially more depth behind the starters for roughly the same money spent… but when I told people here Armon Watts, Okorafor, Leverett, Jordan, Wilcox and Lowe were jags… bad players, posters insisted I was wrong. That teams needed depth and “not everyone can be a starter.”
There’s never a good time to sign bad players. If BB had a blind spot in the draft late in his career, where he really excelled was finding value vet free agents for cheap who were undervalued league wide but could really help your team win. We don’t have that anymore…
