If Wendell will become healthy anytime soon, I'd bet that Ohrnberger would get cut instead. If Wendell won't be healthy anytime soon, and we sign Gurode, then I'd bet we'd see Wendell to IR so nobody had to be cut.

A quality veteran who can play guard and center is one of the few things left that this team could really use. I'm not worried about the knee because obviously he's not getting signed unless he's healthy.

The O-Line could mix and match similar to the D-Line this year with Solder taking on the speed rushers that give Light trouble. Solder, Connely, Wendell, Maneri, as back-ups with Cannon on PUP and Austin on the PS would be an embarrassment of riches.

Add to that the best young TE group in the league and quite possibly the deepest group of talented RB's and you really have something here.

Didn't realize he was a FA after this season. Given that, no, no difference, except that we could keep him from potentially going to a competitor I guess.

I really like the versatility too. You never know when you're going to need someone to play another role/position, especially in the trenches. Not only that, but it may just free up an additional roster spot in the process.

Sign him, far less likely Albert stomps him if he's on the patriots. RG is a serious weakness on this team, and interior pressure is the most effective tool any team has against Brady.

A knee injury on a 300+ pound 32-year old guy is a serious concern.

Maybe he will agree to sign after week 1, when he doesn't need to be guaranteed. It sounds like other teams have offered him that option, and where else could he possibly start on a legit super bowl contender?

The Pats are $12 million under the cap. If they sign him today for a $2-3 million deal and it becomes guaranteed in a week, who cares? It isn't our money.

I think signing Guorde makes sense (other than the obvious issues with Haynesworth). He is still a good interior o-lineman who can start at multiple positions.

He was cut because of his salary and the fact that the Cowboy want to go on an youth movement on the o-line. He is no longer a Pro Bowler, but he can still be an above average guard/center.

Yeah, I think people forget that Wendell's been out the past couple of games, contributing to the general ugliness of the interior OL. IMO Wendell is perfectly serviceable as the 2nd backup to 3 positions, but none of Ohrnberger & crew belong on the roster. (FWIW, Ohrnberger is PS-eligible.)

Gurode was a cap casualty, right? Seems like a promising stop-gap vet.

That's the part that is debatable. He projected as a guard coming out of college but the Cowboys started him at center until Parcell's came along and decided he was better suited to play RG. He played for 2 years with apparetnly less than stellar results before Parcell's benched him. Eventually he returned to Center and emerged as a pro bowler. Obviously the Cowboys wanted him to be a versatile backup at two positions as opposed to their starting center this season and he would not agree to a restructure to reflect that. He would have to be down with being that guy here... He also apparently had knee surgery in June so who knows where he's at competitively at this point.

Depending on his health, bringing Gurode in is a great idea as I've never been impressed with Wendell and Ohrnberger seems to get pushed back too much. Not impressed with either of them.

Gurode was moved to guard because of injuries on the O-line. Much like the Pats moved Woody to Guard when Compton went down and they put Koppen at center. This was before Parcells was hired. Parcells kept Gurode at RG the next two years with mixed results, as you mentioned. He was then a back-up, seeing time at OC and RG, until 2006 where he re-took the starting center position from Al Johnson. He'd been the Cowboys starting center the last 5 years.
